I am sharing some pics which were taken from my bush camera out at my bait. A few dead calfs, and sheep. Pics were taken late February eraly march. In this area we have eastern Red Wolf, Coy-wolfs and Coyotes....what is your opinion on what this guy is?? See pics.

Looks like the nose is a little slim for a pure wolf, but the size is pretty big for a yote. I'd guess coy-wolf. You'll have to shoot it and let us know for sure:D.

Coyote. Ears and nose are the give away. Does look like a large yote. Most likely a male.

I agree a ground check is in order.

Just a very big male Coyote In my opinion.

He definitely needs to be euthanized to prevent him from taking down deer.

Thanks for the input guys. In this area like I said beforee, we have all three, wolves, Coyotes and Coy-wolves ( Which is a wolf with more Wolf genes than Coyote genes.) The wolves in this area are what are known to be the Eastern Red Wolf which was once thought to be extinct and has come back in a big way.

I was fortunate enough to have a met and now a friend, who is an area biologist with the Ministry of Natural Resources and he requested a meat sample from the one I shot a few weeks prior. He is getting DNA testing done on it and I will post the results when I get them. I was told this could take some time (up to 6 months) so please don't hold your breath.

Area farmers have complained about the number of Coyotes/Wolves in the area which have taken down their calfs, and sheep, and for this reason Wolf and Coyote hunting is open year round with no bag limit.

Your right JE Custom, they will hit deer hard during the time the fawns will fall. I took out a road kill deer to my site and the first night out, the area was covered in these dogs, and let me tell you, if they are Coyotes they are all 80 lbs + in this area!

Thanks for the input and welcome it from others as well.

Happy Hunting!

For a few years Colorado band pelt hunting and the coyotes almost wiped out the Mule deer.

Coyotes that size can take full sized deer if they want to .

That is a HUGE coyote! Not familiar with coyote-wolf crossbreeds. Would like to here more. I've seen packs of 6+ coyotes that are not near that size running down deer in IA.

My first thought looking at the smaller size nose/mouth was coyote. But until now I did not know that coy-wolves even existed. It does have a big body.

Now that you've got us all interested I think you need to drill a few bullets through it and have your biologist buddy test it. If it turns out to be a coy-wolf that would sure be a cool fur to have hanging on your wall.
