For you guys that shoot the 6.5/284 what bullets are you using and what kind of velocity are you producing. Tell me why you went with the 6.5/284
I saw a Cooper Jackson Hunter in the red spiderweb snythedic stock for sale in the 6.5/284

I use Berger hunting and JLK 140 VLD's at 2965FPS. My favorite, and most accurate 6.5x284 is a Cooper Jackson Hunter( also back/red veined),Model 520 with a 1:8 twist med/heavy barrel. Outstanding performance on deer sized game, my furthest taken at 998 yards. Perfect bullet performance, and dead in their tracks.

iam shooting the berger 140s sitting atop some rl22 at 3008fps i have a remington action and a kreiger barrel 26" and iam killing rocks at 1032

I just chronographed my savage LRH today.I'm shooting 129 gr Hornady SST with A3100 at 3140 fps.The gun just shoots those bullets into itty bitty groups.
I've only shot a couple of coyotes so far,,just kind of getting this rifle online. So far real happy.

That clenched it for me........................your guys are getting great performance. A 140 at 3000 The Cooper what does that rifle weight..............I will check and see what the twist rate is on the Cooper here in town.............

Thanks for the feed back.............

So if you guys had to do it over you would still go with the 6.5/284?

I have a few 6.5X284's two for benchrest: 2930 for one and 2980 for the other with 140 hybrids. My hunting gun is running 140HVLD's @ 3125.

140 at 3125 !!! Thats amazing ....................What bl length.

I had no idea that you can get that kind of performance out of the 6.5/284 with the 140

I answer to a few of the questions. My Cooper 520 weighs 10.5 pounds fully loaded with bipod. The .78" fluted barrel is a great weight for my mix of hunting
It was a gift from my wife a few years ago from BOTW which was a nice surprise. Everything else I own has been put together by myself. It was supplied with loads that were built with JLK's at 2965FPS. First time at 500 yards it put 5 shots into 2" circle. I have since used my reloads using mostly 140 Bergers that perform as well, but I have shot about half a dozen deer and antelope between 500 and 1000 yards, and acoulple of coyotes out to just shy of 1100 yards. The jLK terminal performance on game appears identicle to the Bergers. The JLK's I have are 142" grains and have a BC of .640 compared to .612 with the Bergers. To use the same dope with the Bergers I set my computer velocity at 25FPS higher. I bought 200 of these from BOTW shortly after I got the rifle. I'm not sure they are a standard catalog item from JLK/Swampy. The rifle still shoots under 2" at 500 yards using either JLK's or Bergers. I have about 500 rounds down the tube. Art

Got a 29" barrel. I wouldn't recomend this for most use, that load is for Deer in the 40 degree and colder days.
