300 Win Mag with 215gr Berger or 210gr LRAB?

I am wanting to push these bullets somewhere between 2950 and 3000, am I asking to much of the 300WM? My plan is to build a long range gun with either 27 or 28 barrel. It will mainly be used to shoot metal plates from 800yds to a mile, as I tend to have a bow in my hand 99% of the time when chasing deer, elk, etc., but it could end up doing some long range culling on doe's in south Texas. What are y'all running in your 300WM's with these bullets? Thanks for the help.

Also does anybody really thing the published BC for Nosler's new Long Range Accubond is correct? It's .014" shorter the 215gr Berger Hybrids, but has a BC higher by .034. If they are correct than that will be the bullet for the 300WM at a .730BC.

Your velocity goals are within reach with a 28" or longer tube. I use H-1000 and good brass to get there. Also I saw more velocity from the 215's over the 210's with a grain less powder from the same rifle, brass and powder lot. I credit that to the shorter bearing surface of the 215 Hybrid.

As for the proposed BC's of the long range Nossler's. From an optimistic side it sure sounds good and would be nice.

Do I think it will be true? I have some doubts. If you research there are published proposed BC's and the actual tested BC's out there for many manufacturers. Nossler's track record is not the best to behold. But if they are correct in their models, it will indeed be a good choice for the long range guys that prefer a bullet of that type of construction.

For what it is worth, I have tested the advertised .696 bc of the 215 Berger Hybrid to well past 1500 yards on several occasions and it seems to be spot on with my rifle.

Thanks for the reply Jeff, the 215's are the bullet I will most likely end up shooting, so long as the rifle I build likes them. Now if I could just get my 6.5 Creedmoor and 223gr F T/R gun finished up, I can really start my 300WM build.

I have a 24'' barrell 300 WM. I don't know what my velocity is, but the 215 Bergers shot amzing in my rifle. It's pretty much factory. I have followed Broz's advice with the H1000 as well.

I shoot a Berger 210 VLD in both a hunting and target variation with H-1000 powder out of a McGowan 26" barrel with a 1-10 twist. I'm getting exceptional accuracy out to 1,300yds so far with what I believe is pushing close to 2,800fps at the muzzle. (this velocity figure is from memory, so must verify for sure) My build is based on a Savage action. Because my gun has loved the 210 gr. Bergers, I have never tried anything else. Looking to get more experience over 1,500yds on 12" gong targets this summer, but according to my Nightforce program, I don't believe I'm getting that magic 1000 ft./lbs of energy left in the bullet beyond 1,200yds for live targets. It sure has been well worth the time, money, and effort though!

I too will be building on a Savage action. It's too easy not to. I have a 17, 22-250, 223, 6.5 Creedmoor (In progress of building), and had a 250-3000 AI, all built on Savage actions. Fun to able to build them yourself.

Hello Shoalwater, I am running a 28' Rock Creek, with 72.5 grains of 4831sc, and the 215 Berger. Velocity is 2949, using my Kestral, it is spot on every time out to 1100 yards, after that my nemisis the WIND, gets me.
I have shot the Bergers out to 2202 yards, using 88 moa, temp was 42 above, and alt was 4800 feet.
That being said the 208 Amax, with 72 grains of powder, needs 95 moa, same distance. For the cost of shooting 1000+ rounds a year, I like the Amax, if I could get Bergers for the same price, I would love to shoot them all the time.

I have been shooting the Berger 210gr VLD with H1000 for several years at 2925fps, see no reason to switch. 26" barrel

I'm using 79gr Retumbo to get 2900 FPS out of my 26" Milspec 700 using 210 VLD''s. 2950 or more should be no problem in a 28" tube.

I got 2930 out of 24" 300 WSM with RL17 and 210 Bergers. I think you do 100-200 fps better with the WM in a 26" easy using RL17.

Very skeptical about the claimed BC of the ALR 210. It would have to defy laws of physics to be true. I think it's a lot closer the the 210 Berger BC.

Dang, 2,930 out of a WSM with the 210's sounds like it is defying physics to me! That's pretty solid!
