Can a 230 gn berger be seated deep enough in a 300 win case to chamber in most factory barrels?

I'd say yes. I have deeply seated the 230 berger hybrid target in a 300 RUM and 300 WSM with excellent results regardless of bullet jump. The WSM was so deeply seated that the ogive almost was past the end of case neck. See pic. As long as it can fit and feed from magazine you are fine.

A while back I read on Bergers website that the 230 OTM was designed with the 300win in mind, and the seating depth and mag box lengths we part of the design too.

Ive read alot of your accounts on the sucess youve had paired wih your 300 win and the 210 and 215 bergers. Have you had the same sucess with the 230's as well?

I'd love to here about this to Jeff. I just cant see the advantage of the 230 over the 215 in a 300wm. At the reduced speeds of a standard 26" barrel with the 230s, the 215 will out preform the 230 hands down ballisticly.
Now with a 28-30" barrel the 230 looks much better, but I'm not sure how they'd compare with the 215 in the longer barrels.

Thats kinda what i was thinking, but ive never tried to load for the 300wm

Yes, we loaded them in my son (Young_Gun's) rifle as soon as they came out a few years ago. His rifle is a custom off a 700 rem action with a 28" Broughton 1 in 10 twist. The rifle is deadly accurate with the 230's and I don't remember him missing with it. It has been flattening antelope, deer and elk evey since we built it. As seen in the fore mentioned thread.
Some interesting real world data. We first had Young_Gun's 300 win loaded up to max with the 210 HVLD's. Then we loaded the 230 Hybrids just below max. The 210's had a MV of 2916, and the 230's 2775 fps. Run the ballistics and you will see that by 1000 yards the 230 catches the 210 even though the 210 has a 140+ fps head start. And also brings an additional 130 lbs of energy. Just past and beyond the 230 is the faster bullet retaining more velocity and energy.
That said Berger has since introduced the 215 Hybrid. I chose to test the 215's last fall in my 300 win and I doubt I will change that for a while. The rifle made 19 big game kills with 19 shots and several shooters. Good enough for me.
As far as 215 / 230 in a 300 win, pick your poison. With longer tubes the 230 will look better out to 1000 and maybe beyond. But if elk are needed for table fair the 230 has it's merit especially at the longer distances. I choose the 215's, but I will use the .338 to go past 1000 on elk.
If loading for a larger case like the 30-378 or RUM I would definitely go 230 OTM.

Just got a chance to look over the past post. Thanks AZShooter. I have to say im always impressed with the kills of Broz and family, and thanks for the input everyone. I think i might use the 215's if i go to the 300 wm.

I am "Broz" son I shoot the 230 in my .300 WinMag and dad shoots the 215, I used to shoot the 210 in my gun before this bullet was released and I developed a happy load with it and mapped it out with the 210 vs 230 you do loose a little muzzle velocity, but at 1000 Yrds the 230 has 130 more ft lbs of energy .

If you didnt want to take game over 1k would you still use the 230 over the smaller bullets?

The key word is "game" Everything smaller than elk, 210's or 215's I choose the 215. Elk out to 1000 210, 215 or 230, elk past 1000 230. Remember when we set up Young_Guns rifle with 230's the 215 was not born yet. Which is why I ended up with the 215 at a later date. But I like the 215 in a 300 win, larger case definatly the 230's or anytime elk are in the mix a bugger bullet never hurts.
I honestly doubt I will ever load a bullet under 210 for a 300 win ever again.
