Angled Shots?

Hi Guys,

I am looking into cosine indicators and really don't like the traditional, rail mounted devices. My issue is that I'd need one for each of my rifles which could total around $500.

Are there any other options for determining cosine for uphill and downhill shots?

What about something like the Leica 1600-B?

Am I missing anything?

Thanks for the help and God bless you,

Adam

I run Shooter in my iphone for getting my firing solutions.

It has an angle function. You set it to hold, and it gives you five seconds to lay it on your turret. (or other flat spot of the rifle which is pointed at the target) Gives me my angle to the shot, and automatically computes it when it spits out my chart. :) Good stuff.

I have the Leica and the Shooter app in an iPod. They both work. ACI's are more expensive then they should be in my opinion and you have to do the math still. However, they do work if you know how to use them and the math is not all that bad.

Just like Orkan I can set the ipod on the rifle or aim and lock the angle. The app uses the data to change MOA based on all the data vs horizontal range. I can also just hit the button on the Leica while ranging, get the ABP, temp, and slope. I have to plug those in anyway so I usually just use my Leica.

One more thing I like about the Leica or shooter is that I can play with guessing my angles and confirming etc ahead of time and anytime easily. I DO NOT play with my rifle, ie scoping things, pointing it at stuff etc. It is a huge pet peave for me.

If you want to spend a bit more and have it all in one unit look at the G7.

Does the Leica provide an easy means of getting the true horizontal distance? I usually use holdovers under 700 yards so that is the main number I would be concerned with. It would be a real advantage to have that provided rather than having to calculate it.

Well, it has a horizontal feature but I am struggling to understand how it works.

What I think it does, reading the book and testing, is calculates the horizontal distance once you choose a bullet drop path )1 of 12 choices, that resembles your DOPE. I think it takes into account the slope as well. You then shoot for that adjusted horizontal distance. It also does MOA and HOLD. For shorter distances, such as 700 or less etc. I think it will come up with very good shooting solutions. Beyond that you need to go to a chart or computer. I will test it out this weekend. I have been simply using the ABP, range, and slope to input in my computer. However, I do believe I have this tool, I should learn more about it.

See all I am really after with my current shooting system is the true horizontal distance. I've read a few reviews on the 1600B but no one has really addressed if it will give simply that number.

Please report back and let me know what you find! If it works out I may put my CRF1200 up for sale and upgrade!
