Build me the best 1000 yard rifle you can for that money. Money does not include scope.

I only have four prerequisites. 300 Win Mag, muzzle brake, right handed bolt and must have ambidextrious pistol grip or thumbhole.

thanks in advance,
Beelzebub

PS, is the Savage Model 110 BA Law Enforcement worth $2,500.00

Sendero with a brake and a greybull stock. Alot better than a savage in my eyes, with a great platform to build off of in the future.

Three replies and three different answers. Sounds like there is a lot of good stuff out there that a retired vet can afford.

I read some of the for sale guns and almost choke when I get to the "bottom line". You guys either have really really understanding wives (understanding LRH is like coke. One snort and your hooked for the rest of your life) or single.

I've got a fair settlement with the VA coming in a couple of months. I told Momma I was gonna keep a couple thousand and buy me a nice long distance rifle. She looked up from reading her Bible, pulled her glasses off, gave me that 1000 meter stare and the said "Sure Honey, you've earned it." Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition".:D

Thanks for giving me some infor and opinions to chew on,lightbulb

"1000 meter stare" I couldnt help but chuckle when I read that :)
If it where me I would put another 300 ish with it and Purchase one of Shawn Carlocks rifles (Defensive edge) You may pay a few hundred more than 2500 but you would have a full on Custom that would be as good as any custom ! Good luck with whichever direction you decide and thank you sir for your service , I will echo what the misses has said ,"You have earned it "

Thanks Buck. Not every body understands or gets "1000 meter stare". I learned that from my drill sergeant back in 70. It is spot on a lot of times.

I'll take a good look at the custom gun you mentioned.

appreciate it,
B

Easy=Find a used BVSS long action and a prefit barrel with a pitstop to a smith for a Holland,Painkiller or Mussle brake. Heck you could build one in 300WM and still have enough left to put together a little brother in 6.5-284 without the brake:D

I only have four prerequisites. 300 Win Mag, muzzle brake, right handed bolt and must have ambidextrious pistol grip or thumbhole. Is there a physical reason for this?

thanks in advance,

PS, is the Savage Model 110 BA Law Enforcement worth $2,500.00 Only if there is a $900 scope on top

No major physical reason. Just have always like the feel of a pistol grip or even the grip on some of the choate stocks. I feel like I have better control of my trigger finger, a straighter squeez and then my thumb and arm to absorb some of the kick. Probably all in my head, but if my head aint right neither is my focus.

I have always loved the 6MM bullet. I would really love to have a 6MM wildcat one day. Maybe instead of the 300 WM.

Fair enough. I'm just the oposite I like big palm swell, the thumbhole and pistol grips just dont feel right to me.
If the Choats work for ya then any long action Savage will get-r-done with the addition of a stock=Leaves you with even more $$ for glass:D

Buy a Savage F/Class or Bench rest in 6.5x284.............$995.00 to $1150.00

Send rifle out to SSS (Sharp Shooter Supply) or
a good local gunsmith and have action tured and
times...............install lighter trigger if needed
Have action bedded........................................................$450.00

Base and rings.................................................................$100.00-$200.00

Lothar Walther barrel prefit ( just in case your gun..........$275.00
doesn't shoot well) Never found one bad yet.

Our group has two F/Class 6.5x284 custom Savages and killing prairie dogs from 100 yds to 1600 yds so far, our range finder doesn't work past that. Other rifle was a .260 custom Savage with Walther barrel with 1580 yd kill
all the way down to 100 yds.

Here is another vote for a defensive edge rifle. I have a few of his rifles and everyone of my long range hunting partners shoot one as well. Literally just a few hundred more than your mentioned budget and I believe the best money can buy. Just my opinion of course, but if u do some searching that opinion is shared by many

That would be "1000 YARD stare " because that phrase was coined during the Vietnam war or just after and it was not a metric saying back then.
There is so many options it is just confusing . Everyone has there own likes and dislikes it may or may not be relevant to what someone else needs .
I would go a McRee fixed stock for $600 and drop something into it.
