Fellas. New to 600 yards in a .243, but not to a .243 caliber. I'm really lost on what to try, what works, what doesn't in a .243 as far as bullets/weight and factory Savage 1:9 and .25 twist for strickly 600 yards. My wallets is keeping me from just spending and trying before asking on LRH website. I have purchased 4 new Savages in the last 2 years. All are incredible as far as accuracy. Most all are model 10/110 Predator hunters, and one is a Precision Carbine. Very impressed to say the least. They were all born to shoot .5moa. Thanks Savage! The newest is this .243 Savage 10/110 Predator hunter. I mostly want it for bench shooting only. So hunting bullet or target bullet, don't matter. What ever shoots best. I'm honestly lost on bullet choices and weights, what will work with this twist, whats too heavy, etc...? The options I've been spending the most time deciding on are:

105 gr Amax .500 BC
105 gr Berger VLD hunting .532 BC
95 gr Berger VLD hunting .480 BC

I'm not looking to compete, but would be nice to join the small local 600 yard shoots to have some fun on a Saturday.
Any experience would be very much appreciated.
Any loads that anyone may have as well would be great too.
Thanks.

I shoot a 26" rem in same twist, it likes every thing from 75-95 doesn't like the 105's for some reason. Shooting in that short barrel od the predator I would shoot either 95 or 87 bergers

Shooters,
I shoot a Win70 HVB in .243 and have never checked the twist of my barrel. It may be 1-10", I dunno.
My rifle has shot everything I have tried in it great. The Hornady V-max's (65 & 87) it shoots to .4". These are devasting on groundhogs and crows but the lighter of these don't hold up great in the wind, IMO.
I had a box of Winchester Western 85 gn Match HP's that I got from someone. They shot in to one hole with 44.5gn of IMR4831 and BR2's.
Then I moved on to the 90 and 95gn Ballistic Tips and they held up a lot better, wind wise. I killed groundhogs in VA at 600yds with these. For this weight bullet I went to Vith N560 (43.5-44.0gn) with BR2's.
Both of these powders shoot bullets in to the .2" range in my rifle, consistently. JohnnyK.

105's are going to be on the heavy side for a 1-9.25 twist. They may stabilize and the may not. Stepping down to the 95 bergers and you have really good chance that they will do well.
I have a remington with the same twist and shoot 95's, 87's and even 65's.

Your 85 gr. load is exactualy the same as mine. Has been a great load over many years.

I've got a Remington 700 VLS 26" with 9 1/8 twist. I've shot 75 grs up to 105 AMAX's. It will shoot one hole at 100 using 85's 87's 90's 100's and even the 105's. Back in early November 2012 I was sighting in for deer season and shot this nice little group with it and Hornady 105 AMAX on top of 45.5grains of IMR 7828. COAL was standard book 2.795". Guesstimated at 2900 fps. hot on left was first shot, group was after adjustment. So you see it can be done. Hope this is at least a starter load for you/

Thanks Beelzebub! Just what Im looking for. I'm probably just gonna spend the $200 and buy the bullets and start load testing. I would really like to shoot the 105 Amax's. For ME, the Amax bullets have 4 out of 5 times out shot the Berger VLD's in the past with other calibers. But, I'm going to buy up some VLD's again and try in this .243.

Thanks for the load data Beelzebub. It is for sure some place to start.
