solid 243 for 600 yard

I need some idea for load(s) for 243 for 600 yd shooting. Never having practice that far im unsure as to what load to be using and what distance to be zero'd at..??

Also have to shoot a 300 yd session prior to the 600 yd squad.... The 300 I think I can handle A-OK but 600 is a tad more than my normal , usual distances.

243 Win in a Rem 700 VLS; Zeiss 4.5-14 scope and a 15 minute rail on the rifle.

What twist is your barrel?
Do you have a preference of bullet manufacturer ?

I have a savage with the 1:9 1/4 twist. Couldn't get the 95 VLDs to stabilize but the 87 VLDs shoot great. Some people can get the 95s to stabalize in a 1:9 twist ( i couldnt) but thats what i would shoot. I'm shooting H4350 and am zeroed at 200 yds. It shouldn't matter what your zero is, your 15min rail will give you plenty of adjustment at 600yds.
I just shot my 243 yeaterday at 675yds and I could easily shoot it under 3/4 minute at that range. I actually shot a 1", 3 shot group at 500 yds before that. I know that was pretty lucky and I know I probably won't ever do it again, but still......****. The 243 is sweet 400-600 yd gun. At 500 yds mine will hold 1/2 min. accuracy if the wind is forgiving.

I shoot 95gn Berger VLD's out of my Gordy Gritters Rem using factory heavy barrel. I also have a clip so seating depth was of concern. The key with the 95gn vld's is seating them into the lands. I can shoot a coyote siloette at 750 pretty consistantly. My load is 42gns of H4350 and win cases and WLRM primers.

My dads factory Rem 700 will not stablize the 95vld's as he cannot seat the bullet out far enough to get into the lands as he also is limited due to the clip.

Sully since your twist should be 9.125", the 95grn vld should work, if not there are 3 other good options, the 87grn vld, the 95grn short vld (traditional hunter), and the 87grn vmax, the bcs are .412, .427, and .400 and all are designed for a 10 twist or faster. Some have great luck with 105 amaxs in the remmys if your elevation is high enough.

OK guys...you gave me some info to think over. I appreciate it a lot.

The club I belong to is opening up trials for their 600 yd range. They give ya 2 shots to get on the paper ( anywhere) and then you can fire for "score". I have no idea how much Im gonna have to dial up to get into the target at 600 yds.

I'll have to do some serious calculations for my drop at that distance to at least hit the target!

300yrds 2.5 moa up from 100yrd 0, 1moa windage correction
600yrds 9.5 moa up from 100yrd 0, 2moa windage correction
These calculations are close and will interchange with the 87grn vld, the 95grn vld at 3200 will have slightly less correction and the 95grn classic hunter at 3200 will take a little more correction. The 105 amax around 3125fps will have less correction than all others, if its a 1/2moa rifle getting on paper, even a 12" square at 600 isn't all that difficult, I am now using a 6br in 1000yrd IBS holding .6-.8moa at 1k yrds.

put a Burris Elliminator scope on it and your done. The internal rangefinder will automatically give you a aiming point for long range targets.

I was thinking along the lines of a 105 BT for less winddrift...???...at about 2900 FPS.

Ballistics chart says it will have to come up 11 MOA over my 200 yd zero. Thats 44 clicks..and thats a bunch....lol

I have a 6BR also..but seems I cant get enough free time to shoot the darn thing

You should be able to get 3000-3050fps pretty easy with 105s and H4350 in a 26" barrel, but the amax may be the only 105 to stabilize.

The only other 2 bullets that will work is the 95 and 107 SMKs and the 107s are ify like the amaxes, the 108grn BiB is by far the best choice, its a high bc flat base but almost impossibleb to find.

105 A-Max, 41-41.5gr (work up) of IMR4350, Lapua brass, and a Fed210 primer. Should get you around 2950-3000fps.
