Vortex vs Sightron

This has probly been asked before but what would be a better choice for a long range rig a Vortex Razor 5-20x50 or a Sightron SIII Series 6-24x5????
wanted some thing I can reliably dial up but also has a reticule I can use for wind doping and re corecting misses.
I really want a Nightforce but havnt won lotto yet

Are you sure your asking about the Vortex Razor HD or the Vortex Viper PST? The Razor is as much as a Nightforce so if you can't afford the NF then you cant afford the Razor. The PST however, is in the same price range as the Sightron. I think the PST has more features but other than that they are very comparable and both have excellent reputations here on this site and many others. Get the best priced one or the one that has the options you want. Either way you cant go wrong.

Those options the razor wins hands down by a long shot.

The PST vs the Sightron sIII is the most comon comparision. Between those 2 I like the PST better, but its so close the argument can go either way

I was very impressed with both. The PST had more options, but I felt the glass was a little better on the Sightron. I also liked their MOA reticle. In the end, I went with the Sightron because I was able to get a litttle better deal on it.

Thanks alot guys. yea i didnt mean the razor my bad.
Will try find one in a shop and have a go.
we get raped in NZ by importers so scopes are a arm and a leg. Just tryn get value for money but its alot harder with scopes than guns I find.

I had the same thing going but went with the Vortex...again, mainly because I got a little better of a deal, though there were a few other things I liked better on the Viper. I've looked through both and, maybe my eyesight isn't good, But I couldn't tell a difference, in bright and lower light.

Either one would be very good.

I'll take better glass over more features anytime.
My vote= Sightron SIII
I have 5 of them,and have never had a problem with any of them.

The glass is very close but I give an edge to the SIII but sometimes function is more important than glass and in a lot of hunting that is the case. For my everyday rifles that get road hard and put away wet I use the PST because it's more functional and faster, on the ELR rifle that rides nice and comfy in a case and not dragged around I use the SIII because of glass, reticle and more MOA. Both track fairly much dead nuts true MOA. Real toss up!!!

JP, not commenting on the 2 scopes cause I have no Info., BUT some food for thought no matter the price or name of scopes.......

"my eyesight" .....emn83 has nailed one of the most important parts of picking scope (A) over scope (B)....for each of us!

This will apply to $100 > $2,200 scopes. You have to look through them and use your eyes not mine. Mine are 71 yrs old and almost used up so what you see is all that counts. Below is my post on how I made my decision on which high dollar scope would solve my problem. I traded MY FINAL ELK HUNT(someday $$$wise) to get EQ. that would prevent what had just cost me a BULL from happening again under those exact conditions!

What do you mean by more functional and faster? To me the only thing the vortex does better than the sightron is having an illuminated reticle.

Thanks guys. Im not that worried about good glass as i usually ony shoot long range in good conditions. All I wanted to know was wether they are reliable and have true MOA values wich seems they do.
Might just get the sightron as I kcant find any people stocking Vortex in NZ

If you are going to go LR target look at the SIII 8-32x56 with the 2nd FP LRMOA reticle. Prefect tracking and for me the dot in the middle of the reticle and 2nd FP ( the dot does not get any bigger on you ) helps me to make precise shots with the 300RUM tack hammer it sits on.gun)
