Does barrel contour affect proper ring height?

I recently purchased a used Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP scope and a Night Force 2-piece Rem 700 long action 20 MOA base. I'm planning on installing this on my Rem 700 in .25-06. I bought this rifle used over 10 years ago and I don't know a lot about it. As I look at the barrel it looks like it tapers quite a bit in the first 4 inches and at the end of the barrel it ends up at about 5/8" diameter.

What kind of barrel contour do I have? Where can I find diagrams of various barrel contours so I can understand them? Will the barrel contour I have affect my choice of rings? Thanks.

You can look on any barrel makers website to see which of their contours your barrel most closely resembles. As far as rings if you are using a NF base I would think low rings might work with a 50mm and mediums will more than likely work.
