I have a remington model 700 chambered for 30-06 i would like to rebarrel it and chamber it for 300 win mag. i looked and the .300 wm is .059 bigger at the rim than the 06 will the action i have work for the 300 wm and i see it's longer by about .126 as well, if i want to load a 215 berger will i have enough room to use the mag from the 06?

can it be done? yes
should it? no.

probl'y better off finding mag action and starting with that, you can pick up a used mag rifle for less money than new rem. action (usually)

I didn't think there was a difference, a long action is the same for a 30-06 or a 300 winmag. Is there a difference? What is it?

bolt face, extractor, and feed rails. all can be altered, from std. to mag. but more expensive than just starting with mag. action.
