I'm getting ready to put together a rifle. Goals for the project are hunting white tails and mulies up to 500 yards (possibly more with sufficient practice), and hitting steel out to 1000+.

I considered the 7wsm, 7saum, 300wsm and 300saum all as possible canidates. After exhaustive research online I'm pretty confident that the 7saum is the best choice for me due to the ability to run larger, high BC bullets in the short magazine without having to bury the bullet as far in the case.

Am I on the right track here or do you guys think I should consider other options? I've done alot of research and while I feel this is my best option I can't help but question myself. Considering how long it takes to get a barrel in, I need to finalize a decision soon.

Specs on the rifle will be...

JP AMCS chassis
ZEL magpul/pachmayr recoil pad
Alpha wsm mags
Savage LRP target action (repeater)
28" Brux bull barrel
DE brake

I'm digging the 7rsaum too and having one built right now....down side is no Remington brass until May, and Nosler is higher than a giraffe's butt.

I have a Stiller Short Action sitting in a Manners Mini-chassis setup With a handful of Alpha mags to feed the system.

I think you'll be happy. The 7mmSAUM is really seeing a surge in popularity, with luck another manufacturer or two will pick up the cartridge. Kevin Thomas are you listening ??:D

I expect to take delivery of the finished rig sometime late this month. 180 Bergers are first on the list.

I'm really looking forward to trying the new 175gr accubond LR. 0.672 G1 BC and claimed operating range down to 1300fps.

The Accubomb is a decent bullet but I will be absolutely floored if the Accubond can acutally achieve a G1 of .672. If I was a betting man (i'm not cause I suck at it), my money would be placed on a much lower #.

Who knows, maybe Nosler will prove me wrong

It does seem a bit optomistic, but I'm hopeful it's close at least. If it truly has reasonable expansion down to 1300 like they say, I'll be content with a BC of .630 or better. We will see once they've been out and for a bit and tested.

I haven't checked their bc's myself, but have you looked into Hammer bullets? I see a lot of positive posts on their accuracy and terminal performance...

Holy Necro-Thread 😂 I'd forgotten this existed! I'm still shooting the 180 Bergers & absolutely LOVE this SAUM.

I've never used a Hammer bullet, but there are a lot of fans on here. Will they kill? Without a doubt. I've used quite a few Cutting Edge Monos & they rock, i'm sure Hammers are right there with them... probably.

I read a study a couple mknths ago where they were testing actual BCs vs advertised and the 168 gr (.284) ABLR were actually turning out .649! Advertised was .619 IIRC.
