SOCIALIST CONTROLLED TERRITORY OF NEW YORK
So, I have been considering moving out of state (NY) after I finish my BA in nursing. I don't know where to go, I hate it here in NY, the liberals, taxes, laws etc.

Texas has really caught my eye as of late, for the shooting, hunting, and horses. Thing is, I have only been to San Antonio and El paso areas and they really did not do it for me. To much sand, I was thinking the north east part of the state anyone live there?

Other considerations would be the north west, as I lived out that was for some time and really have a fondness for it.

I took way to long to make "The Move" do it asap brother. I spent a good part of my life traveling the US. My move to Montana was no accident. I am here for the duration.

Did you say horses? Here are two of mine. I won't even start on the hunting pics.:)

I'd pick a state that's talking about secession, or nullification of Federal laws. Broz's Montana is hard to disagree with. I like Wyoming, but Idaho is close, Texas has a ancestral tug, my mom still has property there. Alaska has a place in my mind, but doubt I could make it through a year at this point. My son is supposed to graduate college this year, and with my responsibilities there fulfilled, another move may be in my future. Dillon, and Cody top the list right now.

The first 2 reasons you state are huge draws for TX

I live in the armpit of the country as well. Having traveled to many states in the US, I really like Wyoming, the area around the foothills of the Bighorns. Unfortunately my job has required I live in the Northeast for all of about five years of my life........so far.

There are some great places, at least for now. All I can really say for sure is GET THE HELL OUT OF NEW YORK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Randy

And Idaho is one of the last great places. But don't move here---too many people with guns............gun)

I've lived in the midwest pretty much my whole life, 7years in SC. If I were younger I would move to Wy. in a heart beat, if not there it would be Mt. Like I said if I were younger, as it stands now I will probably die in the Midwest. Like Broz stated don't wait wherever you go. As stated above get the hell out of New York before they come for your guns.

A large difference between west and east is that ya gotta put a lot of miles on to take advantage.

A gps distance of 35 miles take 54 miles to get there. Those are the short hunts. However, I do shoot yotes and got this years cow behind the house.

I grew up in western PA. Lived in VA for awhile. It was great. Joined the Navy to see the world. Got stationed for 4 years out of the 6 in southeast Idaho. Tho't I'd died and gone to heaven. :) Been here since 'cept for 18 mo in PA and 7 years in LA.

Remember this good advice: If ya wanna make a million dollars in Idaho, ya gotta work a million hours. :D

When I lived in those other states I could afford to do all the hunting I wanted in ID and PA.

Being retired w/a little blood pressure lift and the mortgage paid off, there ain't no moves in my future.

Goin' woof scouting/hunting/shooting  in the morning south of Palisades Res.

Google on Palisades Idaho, Commissary Ridge or Flag Knoll Idaho and eat your heart out.:D

If there were a move in my future I'd pick Montana.

Lots of good choices, I suppose its going to come down to picking a few areas and the wife's employment. With my current job I can go almost anywhere and get work. I suppose it will be the same when I get my degree as well.

We had planned on moving but not for another 14 years, recent events have moved things along.

I too am done with NY State. I've wanted for quite some time to go West. West if the Mississsippi River that is. A trip to west Texas , the Sweetwater to Snyder area a few years ago has been the only time Ive been across big muddy.

I've driven through every state east of the Miss and there are a great many beautiful places. Did quite a abit of hunting and fishing when gas was affordable. Too many to list if I start thinkin' about it.

Right now, Montana or Idaho have been on my radar as is Wyoming. What about the Dakotas? or Nebraska? I've got some homework to do.

Pete

Born and raised in Montana. Left for a while, lived in Cheyenne, Laramie, Arizona, Kalifony. I came home. Hell I'm not sure I'd leave Havre if I won the lottery. Just no place else I have any desire to be than Montana. I don't even like taking trips out of state. lol

Horses? My baby

You folks thinking about heading out this way. What are your occupations? OP is going into the nursing field so I'd say Billings, Greatfalls, Missoula, maybe Bozeman. That's where the better paying nursing jobs are.
