I am just in the planning stage of my first rifle and here are my thoughts so far. This is going to be a purely target gun that I would like to shoot out to at least 1k. I am pretty sold on 6.5 creedmoor, unless there is some reason you guys think I shouldn't. I like the savage target action with right bolt/ left port because it sounds like the gunsmithing will be easier and I like the idea of the left port. I don't know where to begin with a barrel except that I would like 1 in 8 twist or faster. What length, contour, and brand do you recommend for 1k? Do I go with pre-fit or a blank and have someone do it? This will be my first real build so ANY advice is welcome! I want to have an exact idea before I order any piece. Thanks in advance!

I'd consider the 260 Remington, 6.5x55, or the 6.5x47 Lapua since Lapua makes brass for all three of those cartridges. I'd build over buying a factory rifle.

What should I be looking at for a contour for a barrel then? Any preferences?

Do you mean the caliber or a savage out of the box?

Both. If I had to buy an off the shelf rifle in a pinch, I'd buy the Savage long range hunter. I'd buy the 6.5x284 for just for the extra power. The Creedmore looks to be a great cartridge, I own a 260 Rem and love it.
