I just purchased a leupold gold ring Spotter, and now I'm hunting for a tripod to go under it. I'm looking to spend $200 ish. As far as use I need it to be durable, but not weigh a ton or be bulky. It will mainly be used sitting. I would like to be able to strap it on a pack and potentially pack it all day. (The pack will probably be an eberlestock X2) I purchased the vanguard Alta 233, which looks to be a solid tripod; I think it weighs 4.5lbs with the pan head that came on it. The hang up is that is seems to be a bit heavy, and bulky for packing all day. The Bog Pod CLD with the Bog pod PCA mount, which is the trigger type head you pull and release to move and freeze, just keeps catching my attention, it is a pound lighter and It looks like it folds up smaller because it has no metal rod in between the 3 legs like on the vanguard. But Im also concerned about the stability of the Bog pod without the 3 legs being connected. I was just hoping someone had some experience with either of the tripods to help me make a decision! Also has anyone used the PCA mount by Bog pod? Which heads to you gies prefer? Pan heads, ball joint or the trigger type?
Any advice it well appreciated!
heres the bog pod:

Im glad to hear it I think i would like the bog pod over the vanguard. Do you feel like any stability is lost with all of the legs being independant of each other? Which head to you have the ball joint or trigger style for it?

No the legs being independent help conform to the uneven ground and or rocks. I have the ball joint, but think the trigger would be nice and easier to adjust when spotting.

alright thanks it sounds like a winner for what I want! I think im going to have to order one!
