I am Thinking about buying a rifle in the not so distant future and after doing a lot of research (google :D) i still don't know what rifle i should buy. i have narrowed it down to these:

Remington 700.
winshester model 70
savage model 10, 110 12 any of those
ruger m77 hawkeye
ruger american
tikka t3 lite, hunter, varmint
browning x bolt.

the main use of this rifle will be on the range, hunting deer and coyotes/foxes. i would like to shoot the gun 500 yards+ if im good enough some day.

could you give me your opinions on these guns.
help appreciated!
thanks

I've got a few remington 700s, a couple ruger 77 hawkeyes, a winchester 79 featherweight, and a tikka t3 lite. Hands down, the most accurate out of the box rifle I have is the tikka. I've come up with tons and tons of different handloads to try in the Remington's and Rugers (haven't handloaded for the winchester yet) before finding one that was decent enough for hunting. Handloading for the tikka was almost as simple as deciding what bullet I wanted to shoot and at what velocity and I was done. I don't think it's ever shot a group larger than 1.5" with anything and that's not the case with the others. The tikka is the lightest by far also! Now I'm not saying I don't like my other rifles. The 700 is one of my favorite platforms and is extremely popular for building custom rifles off of and has hundreds if notthousands of aftermarket accessories to support it. Here is how my tikka shoots...

5 shot group with the farthest shot which I pulled and the middle shot was first cold bore shot. Other hole is 3 shots

Got to a gun store, look at all the different rifles you are interested in, and go with the one that feels the best to you. It's hard to go wrong with just about anything these days. Practice a lot!

interesting. i have heard alot of good about the tikka t3. and as far as quality goes, is it good? what do you think about the plastic magazine? thats something i wouldn't like about them but then again thats only a very small drawback!

thanks for your reply! :)

In my opinion the rugers are out and probably the remingtons its too much of a crap shoot with them if your hoping to get a good one on your first try. Obviously I think the Tikka is the way to go. The magazine and trigger guard are actually some sort of polymer not plastic as most people think of plastic. Its very stout material and also very light. I have used and abused them and never had a single issue. and I have never had a tikke not shoot great. they are well built.

Mike gave me this same advice last year, I took it and have been totally happy I did.
