Best 7mm WSM Handload?

I've pretty much decided on 175 grain matchkings because of its ability to take out deer and elk at a range with ease, even in wind. But I do not own a rifle in this caliber quite yet, and I would like to know what powders and seating depths work best for everybody else. If you could share your load that would be greatly appreciated. Also if you could post your groups @ any range >100, or a picture of the target (even better!) then I would be grateful. Thank you for your time.

A lot more people are using the 168 gr Berger, 180 gr Berger, and 162 gr Amax. I am starting to load the 7mm WSM with 168 gr Bergers and H1000 powder. The rounds have been loaded and hopefully I have time to shoot them sometime after christmas.

Tell me how they work, I suspect I might get my rifle at about that time, i'll shoot some factory bullets out and use the brass, I'll try out your load if it works!

In the 4 different 7 WSM rifles I have had. I have always been able to find competitive 1000 yard loads with 168 Bergers & 180 Bergers & JLK's. The powders were RL22, H1000 & H100V. In my Win. 7 WSM Coyote both 62.2grs of RL22 & 65.0grs. of H1000 both impacted in the blue center of the 1000 yard target. As always start low & work up.

I have a RBros custom 7WSM, and even though it shoots well with Retumbo, H4831SC and H1000, it shoots most consistently with the H1000. I am shooting the Berger 168 grain Classic Hunter (hybrid) even though this target picture was with the VLD bullets that I shot before I tried the hybrids. I have repeatable groups like this with the hybrids. The 2.169" oal noted in the picture is measure taken with Hornady LockNLoad comparator, not total oal. Having said all that, your rifle may be different, and you will not know what it likes best until you try it.

were you 2.169 to lands with the claasic hunter and what powder charge did you use with the. I will work up and i was starting with h-1000. what was your final COAL with the CH?

gerryb disregard the 2.169" measurement, it was with an incorrect insert in the comparator. With the Berger 168 Classic Hunter, length in my gun with the Hornady comparator to .010" off lands is 2.200", and my final load was 68 gr. H1000, but your gun may be different, so work up safely.

2.200" to ogive with the Hornady comparator is correct. I don't know for sure the base to bullet tip length, never measured it, but yes it is probably somewhere around 2.8".
