.308 palma

Been thinking about this myself also but I read on one of the forums that the small primers in 308 dont do well in cold weather or something to that affect. I think it was a shooter from the UK talking about that if I remember correctly.

The idea of Palma brass is faster burning powders like Benchmark, H4895, 8208xbr, 3031, etc.. combined with light bullets 155grn and long barrels. If temps are below 50* its hard for even a CCI450 or Wolf srmp to ignite 44-47grns of Varget, 4064, RE15, 748, etc.. On a positive note using the small rifle primers makes for better accuracy and pretty much eliminates loosening primer pockets.

i shoot 42gr of 8208xbr with a 23.5 inch barrel, should i be fine in cold weath, would it help me much shooting a 165gr sgk.

Probably won't do a lot of good especially in typical hunting temps. Maybe try 45-47grns of 4064 or Varget with fed210Ms or CCI BR2s, I know velocity will be higher than 42grns of 8208 unless you got some freak 8208 that's faster than RE10x.

I shoot about 2675fps. I had it hotter but didn't group great so I pulled it down to 42gr

Well I say that's a little slow for a 23.5" barrel, I run 168s from a 24" at 2840 with 4064 and accuracy is great. What is your twist, if its a 1:10, you will likely have to break 2800 for the next node with 165s.

You may find another sweet spot between 2775 and 2800fps. A friend of mine shoots my handloads in short range tactical matches, 20" 12 twist, for my rifle they are neck sized with his they are FL sized, I use 47 grns in mine and 46 in his in winchester brass using 4064, they run at 2840 from my 24" and only 2715 from his 20" but it still shoots great, bullet of choice is the hornady 168 bthp match or amax.

My best 5 shot so far has been .297", his was .422" I think, mine typically holds .3-.4" his is usually around .5-.7". Mine also has a better stock, trigger, and highend glass.

I've shot that load to 600yrds with a 3 7/8" group. He shoots 2-3" groups at 300yrds in the short range tactical matches.
