I recently found this forum and it is phenominal! I've searched this forum and the web in general and haven't been able to find the answers to my questions. I am wanting to build a 300 win mag, 338 lapua or 338 rum (or something comparable). My question is, can I build any of these from a Savage 7mm mag donor? If so, which one(s)? If not, what would be a good Savage rifle to build from? I am wanting the rifle mostly for tactical training but possibly for hunting large game at some point. I am wanting to shoot papaer out to over 1k. Hunting will be closer distances. This will be my first build so I'm open to any and all (constructive) criticism/suggestions or whatever you have.

Thank you!:D

I recently purchased a Savage 110 FCP-HS in 300 win mag i have shot mine out to 400 yds and had 4"-5 1/2" groups with mine. Only thing I changed was my trigger pull, was adjusted to 2-1/2 lbs. I am fairly new to the long range but am impressed so far with the savage.

Long actions with a bolt face .Dia of .585 +/-
30/378 Weatherby, 338 Lapua, 338/378 Weatherby, 378 Weatherby mag, 416 Rigby,
416 Weatherby Mag, 460 Weatherby Mag, and the 470 Nitro Express.

IIWY, I'd stay with any of the 7MMs, preferably the 7MM STW or .300 Win Mag.

My recent project was a .270 AI on a Savage 110 LA. It has a 30" Lilja barrel, 3-groove, and 1:8 twist. It is pushing the 175gr Matrix at 2919 FPS with 57.5gr H4831SC while fire-forming to AI.

Good luck!

With your intended purposes it is tough to beat the 300 win mag. Granted if mainly steel and paper the 7 mag is a great round also.

I've got a .300 Win. Mag. and love it. It suites my needs perfectly. With the 215 Berger Hybrid out of my 28" Hart I have enough energy and velocity for game out to a touch past 1,000 yards. Accuracy is unbelievable with this bullet and the G7 BC seems to be dead nuts for me out to 1,331 yards (farthest I've put it on paper measured with my Leica 1,600 CRF). It'd be hard to beat a .300 Win. Mag, the .338's will beat it, but it comes with added costs and more recoil.

I had a Savage 110 in 300 win mag, I did a re-barrel project went with a 338 win mag, mostly due to availability of Ammunition and reloading components, it was an easy swap, less than 15 minutes. I never did any long range shooting with the 300 win mg due to the small diameter barrel, I had a 180 grain Nosler partition round that shot lights out for hunting, but was not a long range round. The 338 win mag with more aerodynamic bullets has been fun I am playing with a 265 Grn LR accubond that is pretty accurate out to 600 yards, probably further, but haven't shot further with it yet. This should be able to meet your criteria. The other option hindsight being what it is, you may want to consider a 33 Nosler it is a better option as far as longer range as it has more case capacity the COAL of a 33 Nosler is the same as a 338 win mag. My Savage already had the limbsaver, timney trigger, stock bedded, 20 MOA rail on it. I did scope out a Lapua swap but would have had to do other modifications as my Savage is an older top loading type.
