looking for opinions and options for a semi long range scope with a turret or an aftermarket turret option that wont break the bank. range of use will be 100-1000 yds rifle caliber will be a 264 win mag
options im looking for are max power of 15-20+
possibility of a ballistic reticle as well as turret option
quality and dependable warranty
max obj of 50 mm, i think 56 would be a little too big
trying to keep it semi light, nothing too superheavy

break the bank means diffrent price/quality ranges for diffrent people.

doesnt break the bank to Donald Trump is not the same as it is for me.

Look at the Vortex viper series of scopes. Plenty of people are making custom turrets for them. Reticle is something you have to choose up front. Prices are WAY lower than leupolds.

If you can swing it a PST would fit the bill pretty well. If you hurry you can get $75 off at optics planet on one right now. That make a pretty good deal. They will just take a while to ship.

i was really looking into a vortex viper hs lr in 4-16 or 6-24 but noticed their click value is 1/2 moa, and not 1/3 or 1/4, what are the advantages/disadvantages of this system

I think the HS is the only series to have the 1/2MOA increment. I think the HS is for High Speed ? The regular viper scopes have 1/4MOA, certainly my Viper 4-16PST FFP is set up that way and can also come 1/10th mil.

The HS stands for hunting/shooting. Some of the viper hs series has 1/4moa clicks

The Viper HS LR's have 1/2 MOA elevation adjustments. Probably not that big a deal really. Allows you to dial elevation more quickly but you do miss out on some precision that way. Worst case you shoot a 1000 yrds and one click moves you ~5". If your rifle is shooting 1/2 MOA out that far then maybe you have 1 MOA of total possible error in a perfect world. Having 1/4 MOA adjustment doesn't really gain you that much if you look at the numbers. 0.75 MOA total error. So a 7.5" variance or a 10" not counting other variables. Honestly there are so many other things going on that far out it probably isn't going to be the one that causes a miss. A wind call off by a couple MPH, incorrect BC for your bullet, a 15 fps mistake in muzzle velocity, small error in target distance or even a missed call on spin drift actually might hurt you more.

Right now the Vortex Viper HS LR is going to be around $549 for the 44mm version, $599 for the 50mm version.

Dad and I own a couple of them, but also own Zeisses with turrets. For the same price now on sale it's a no-brainer.

This one:

Much better in low light and the clarity is better in any light. You will not regret it for a second.
