INTRODUCING Accubond Long Range

10-4

We had a pretty good idea and expectation of inflated BC values. Most of us are probably hoping the true BC values will be improved over the standard Accubonds and provide a reasonably good LRH bonded bullet.

I "tested" a .338 cal 300 gr Accubond exiting the muzzle at 2900 fps and slamming through a bull moose at 30 yards (Sept. 2012) the bullet was not recovered but the end result was phenomenal performance that hella impressed me, the vitals were jellied with a fist sized exit hole causing massive blood loss and instantaneous (and even immediate) death occured !!!!
( no I don't work for Nosler, ... just a lowly carpenter from Alaska, haha )
I would not hesitate using an Accubond at "hair" range on a large ****ed of brownie, something I would never attempt to do with any Berger or Sierra bullet regardless of caliber or weight, and that's not dissing those bullets.. "just facts as I see them"

Regardless of the high bc claims I see a home for the 6.5mm bullets in my wildcat 6.5 PRO, sending the new Accubond at 3700+ fps will be awesome, and (hopefully, NOSLER !!) a 140 gr at 3600 fps , then again personally I'd rather have Nosler make a heavier 150-160 gr 6.5mm Accubond, now THAT would be fantastic !

the bullet I would really like to see is a Swift A Frame in a Scirrocco profile

"Designed with an optimum performance window ranging from 3,200fps to 1,300fps"

"AccuBond®-LR allow it to expand rapidly for effective energy transfer and significant tissue damage while retaining sufficient weight to ensure deep penetration into the vitals."

Two of the more significant quotes from the release IMO. I like the lower velocity for reliable expansion. Aren't the Berger VLD's advertised at a minimum velocity of 1600 for reliable expansion?

I think this bullet helps solve my disgust of wasting meat using a typical LR bullet should the target happen to step out at close range....while still giving adequate performance downrange as well!

I'm sure interested, whether or not I try to use em is going to depend more on bullet to bullet consistency, Guess Berger and Matrix kinda spoiled me that way

Thats a recommendation, ask Broz what his impact vel was at 1285 with 215gr hybrids, which are the target bullets with the thicker jacket, not the hunting bullets

Thats my only concern with using Bergers, I'm sure the LRAB with prove to be a very good bullet, maybe shed a little more weight that the traditional AB, but I think the concept will be a nice compliment to the VLD type bullets.

The impact velocity from my 300 win at 4100 ft. ALS was about 1670 for the 215 Berger Hybrid. .308" entrance and about a 1 1/4" exit.

Looking at this and the 1285 yard shot from my 300 win I can't really see why we need a expansion rating down to 1300 fps. That would put me out to about 1700 yards. Unless we are going to load these up is something like a 308.

Exactally!!!

Me being the 308 fan that I am, this opens a lot of possibilities for me.

Besides, the upper limit should help you with the high velocity close range impacts. You don't have to take advantage of the lower limit. That's the awesome thing about this concept. You can use these in a 308 or a 30-378. Close or long with either.

Let's just hope they work as advertised.

I think in smaller calibers like the 6.5 the 1300 limit threshold will be big.

Is there any plastic tipped bullet with a verified lower expansion limit of 1300 fps? I mean real expansion, like an expanded diameter of 150% of the unexpanded diameter, not some 10% bulging that would contribute little to wounding. In my experience, most bullets need 300-400 fps more than their advertised lower expansion threshold for adequate performance.

1300??? Well, hopefully people realize this is NOT applicable for all calibers!!!

1300 FPS on a 150 grain bullet is only good for sniping Zombies....anything else and it's just gonna bounce off it's forhead and just **** it off!!

will have to stay above 1750 FPS on a 150 gr .277 to be of any real use!!

from an energy standpoint, the 150 ALR would allow an extra 200 yards vs the 140 AB...

So you're saying the original accubond needs 2200'sec for expansion? That's not what my experience has been.

Even if these new ones needed 1600'sec it is still a huge benefit for my 308. A better bc, lower expansion limit. An Amax that will hold up on the 30 yard moose which my Amax loads did not fare so well. There are sst's with a 1600'sec limit but the 30 cal bc's are lower and I still don't trust them on moose. The only reason amax's were used on a moose was out of necessity.

Like them or not, that's cool. They will serve some guys well.

Besides we're just happy another manufacture had taken note of what we need and offered us another alternative. I don't trust vld's on ak/yukon moose at 30 yards either. Yet not all my moose are taken at 30 yards so it woul be a better happy medium.

I believe in most calibers the A-max fits that definition.
