The donor - Savage 110 in .270 Win paid $199 used from Scheel's. Had it for 2
years and harvested 2 deer and an antelope.

... and later naps! :D

The specs ...

$199 - Savage 110 L/A
$370 - Lilja 30" barrel, 3-groove, 1:8, #6 contour (.750" at the muzzle).
$250 - square action, thread, chamber, crown, sand blast, and install (by Dave
Young, Sand Coulee, MT)
$110 - B&C Duramaxx stock (olive web)
$ 40 - EGW zero MOA rail (might have to go for a 20 MOA later)
$ 30 - lug nut from Stockade
$999

Because of the 1.25" OD, I went nut-less per smith's recommendation ... and darn happy with it. I currently have the trigger set at 2.5 lbs and will have to bed it later. Not sure of scope yet but I have a couple old scopes laying around for the brass fire-forming phase. It's ~ 8 lbs without the bipod.

I will primarily be handloading the 165 and 175 Matrix VLDs and perhaps later Berger's 170 VLDs.

Will keep you posted on any progress . Sorry for all the pix.

Nice Rig, Look forward to seeing some targets! I am sure ther new Bergers will work well! Do you have a picture of a round? Maybe one next to a standard 270!

My initial goal is to develop a .270 Win load as I fireform to AI.

Thanks!

Well, dang!
I gotta admit that's a fine lookin rig FEENIX.gun)
I'm not gonna join the dark side, but I am very impressed! Awesome chambering, & great setup. Well thought out rig. I'll admit it, I'm envious.
Can't wait to here how it shoots.

I managed to go at the range Monday. A friend me gave a box of ...

because apparently it does not group well on his rifle.

The goal was to sight in the scope while fireforming the brass and break in the barrel.

It was sunny and ~75F but with 30+ MPH wind.

Considering the circumstances, esp. not looking for any grouping, I'm happy with the result thus far at a 100 yards ...

Must have jerked shots 9 & 10 ... happy nonetheless.

Hope to send through some handloads this weekend.

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica]I'm still fireforming brass to .270 AI (can't seem to find time ), I wasn't looking for any accuracy but had the following results (3-shot groups):

Win Brass, CCI BR-2,

165gr Matrix VLD (COAL = 2.674")

1) 58.5gr H1000, Vx = 2821 FPS, SD = 20 FPS
2) 58.5gr H4831SC, Vx = 2981 FPS, SD = 17 FPS

175gr Matrix VLD (COAL = 2.684")

1) 57.5gr H1000, Vx = 2801 FPS, SD = 5 FPS
2) 57.5gr H4831SC, Vx = 2919 FPS, SD = 16 FPS (pix below)

Shows some promise, no pressure signs yet.

Diggn it!!! Your almost running with the WSM already gun)

Me too, just can't seem to find more range time, esp. with the speed goat opening this weekend followed by deer and elk. :D

Do you have other powder recommendation(s) to share suitable for my set-up and Montana's hunting weather conditions :).

Thanks!

Ed

How much extra case capacity does the AI have over the Win???

Is the benefit the added case capacity or the sharper shoulder angle???
