Anyone use Alliant Power Pro 2000-MR?

A guy I bought an action off told me he uses Power Pro 2000-MR exclusively now for his .223 and .308 heavy bullet loads and that he gets great acuracy and higher velocities than with the usual powders (Varget, H335, etc.). Does anyone else have experience with this powder?

I have tried some loads with this and a 175 berger otm with lapua brass. out of my remmy 5r milspec 308 24" I came close to 2950 fps but I started getting pressure signs. I have a pet load with rl 15 that is dialed in. I just havent had the time to work with accuracy on the 2000-mr I was able to get about 100 fps faster than rl 15 with it pretty easy but the accuracy was not close to my pet load. I find that my 5r likes 2700 to 2750 for 175/178 grain projectiles. 44 grains of rl 15 and lapua with 210 match primers gives me sub .5 moa all day long. and with the berger and hornady bc I can reach 1200 yards. Some guys have had better luck but the extra 100 fps wouldnt really get me much farther. Best of luck. I may go back and try again but I need the time.

I want in on this one. I just bought some of the PP2000MR. Want to give it a run and see what it do! I'm going to run it with 175 OTM's and 175 Nosler CC.

I shot up a pound of varget with hornady 150 sst and 150 accubonds in
308. The consistency was great with all loads under an inch.
My best group was 4 shots in .62 and the average was .75".
I decided to give power pro 2000 a try. The first 5 shot group
I fired with accubonds went into .42". Hornady 165 SSTs also
Shot under a half an inch. I need to test more to determine consistency
but so far my rifle seems to like it. One thing I noticed was was
that my barrel seemed much cooler after the shot with power pro
than it did with Varget. The best load so far is
WW brass, Fed 210m, 50.8 grains PP 2000, Accubond 150 seated to
2.810. No pressure signs so far so I may ease on up and see what happens. Sorry, no chrono. The rifle is a Rem 700 sps varmint .308 with 26" barrel that I restocked with a B&C Medalist target with aluminum bedding block. I skim bedded with Devcon. I also added a Timney 510 trigger and my old standby Kahles 8x56 with Warne Mounts. I wanted to try the power pro to see if I could get a little flatter trajectory for the huge bean fields I hunt but I wont settle for velocity at the expense of accuracy. I'll post
more after i've done more shooting.

Thanks you for the info. I have done some testing with it and my 168 Berger's. I have gotten good 100yd groups, but the ES's were a little high. I might retest another load. Here is a target from my test day.

A follow up to my previous post. I'm a little concerned about
my most recent trip to the range to test power pro 2000. Last week
I shot 4 three shot groups with the 50.8 grain load that shot
so well for me before. Everything was the same except for the
temperature (90 degrees). The same load that shot .37 when it
was 62 degrees would not group below 1.3 inches at 90 degrees. My
pet load with varget shot same group size at both temps.
I guess I'll do more testing but it seems the "temp sensitivity monster"
may be rearing his ugly head. I really had high hopes for this
powder but to me consistency is more important than velocity. Maybe it was
Just a fluke.

I just shot a group yesterday using PP2000MR out of my 18" barrel. I am using 168 Berger Hybrids, Wolf primers, Norma brass, seated around .014" off the lands. The group measures just a hair over half inch at 100yds. My velocity is 2571avg, 12fps ES, and 4fps SD. So that is where I am at right now. For an 18" barrel, that's pretty good. I did try some CFE223. I was shooting it in the same rifle and shot around 2680fps. It was a little hot, so I need to back down about a half grain or more. It might be the new powder. This is a hunting rifle, so I may be sticking with the above load due to accuracy. I'll have to let you know later.

I have done a little shooting with 165 sst's. My rifle seems
to be a little more consistent with the heavier bullets using power pro.
Now that I have found a really good hunting load (sub .5 moa) for the 150 accubond with varget, I'll be able to devote more time and experimentation to the power pro. I thought I had my hunting load with mr2000 until my last trip to the range at 90 degrees. I definitely lost some confidence in the power pro that day. We'll see what happens. I'd love to find a good load with the added velocity it gives. It would come in handy in some of the beanfields I hunt.

Liltank. What length barrel are you using? Those velocities
are impressive with a 168 grain bullet.

My current rifle has an 18" barrel on it. The other rifle that I sold that produced the targets on this thread with the higher velocities was a 28" 1:12 Lothar barrel.

get 2850 to 2875 with my 26" barrel and 165s. I know all rifles are

I've shot it from temps 70 to 95 degree and didn't notice much velocity change on the chrono. Maybe 10 ftps. So far I've put about 400 rounds through the barrel with this powder/bullet combo and i'm impressed with it. The rifle consistantly groups in .2's and .3's at 100 yards (5 shot groups) and right at an inch at 300 yards. This load shoots very well at distance also. Shot the load at 600 yard FTR match and also practice rounds and it hammers. I will keep testing it as the temps drop and see what happens but so far so good.

Just out of curiosity, what primer are you using. I have found that the wolf primer works better with my rifle than the F210M's I currently own.

I'm using CCI BR2 primers, I tried Fed 210M and the CCI's gave me better ES numbers. I never tried Wolf primers but heard they work well. My barrel is a 28 inch Krieger (11 twist).
