Lightweight Long Range Scope

If money wasn't a consideration, what glass would you put on a .338 Edge that you were trying to keep the weight down on? I have an extra Premier 5X25, but it weighs a ton, and I don't want to lug the extra weight around. I want to shoot over a grand with it, so I'll need some magnification.

I hadn't thought about March, but I will look into those. I was kinda looking at the 5-30X50 Swaro Z6. I've never owned one, but I hunted with my buddy's Z6 a few months ago and the glass was pretty impressive. I don't think I'll NEED that much magnification to hit a large animal at long distances, but I'm thinking it would be a little easier to see details like horn size.

If money is not object I'd recommend taking frequent trips to the area where you hunt and do a lot of target practice shooting in conditions of wind and distance that you'll actually hunt in. Even a cheap scope can resolve 1/4 MOA while a 10 mph wind over a 1000 yard trajectory can give wind deflections in the order of 5 MOA. The money spent on a $2500 scope versus a $300 scope won't improve accuracy in the field nearly as much as learning how to dope wind. You can't buy an instrument which will do that for you. If you know of one please tell use about it.

I went with a Mark 4 6-20x50, TMR,M5. At 22.5 oz. I love the mil system and would go this route again. Reticule has a small space in center, which I can center at 400 on a 1 1/2 sticky dot,great for practice.

Thanks for the heads up on March, guys! If they will take an almost new BSA on trade, I will probably order one up. It looks like they really have a LOT to offer! I dug around and found some crazy stuff, and a couple of them look perfect for my application. This one is lighter than my 4-16 Hensoldt with almost three times the magnification! Yeahhh, I can be a bit of a smartass at times when provoked. I do a lot of long range shooting, but I've never been overly concerned with how much my guns weighed. I've also hunted a lot, but I've never really combined the two, so I'm trying to gear up for some ELR hunting, and I want to keep the weight down on this one so it doesn't kill me to carry it up and down mountains if I end up having to do that. Lou made the assumption that I had no idea what I was doing, which got under my skin a little.

Your photo of the scope and note is so **** funny, I laugh whenever I think of it.

Good plan, keep your gear light. I've been thinking about pushing my blacktail range out to 600 yds this season. Currently, I'm comfortable with about half that range. I hunt really brushy terrain in So. Cal. Blacktail here are small and usually only partially visible in the brush. Gotta see a forked horn to take it - no doe season here.

I'll probably use my sporterized Mauser in 270 Win because it shoots sub MOA 5-shot groups. I have to upgrade my bino, spotter and riflescope, though. Still undecided about those details. I may go 15X on the bino. I'm thinking either BDC reticle or mildot. I've been tinkering with both options on different rifles. I need to go light on everything for the same reason as you.
