I have a decent piece of property that I use to shoot up to 1000yds plus. Perfect layout for it. Thought about putting a club out there. Would there be much interest out there if I did?

I am out near Brownsville area. About 45 mins directly south of Pittsburgh. I have been looking for a club that offers long range. I couldn't find anything with distances over 300yds...

I'm in Saxonburg...20min N. of Pgh. I have a few that can get out there pretty well. gun).........................................:).

suggest you look at the Reade and Williamsport ranges in PA first.

Talk to guys at both. Find out what works, what does not and most importanly what mistakes NOT to make.

There used to be 1k BR club in SE Ohio that attracted a lot of shooters. Right layout for 600 and 1000 BR and if possible F class is what you want. F class calls for pits and that is expensive. You would have a bunch of 600 and 1k shooters in that area.

The club in SE Ohio is Thunder Valley and they run a lot of tactical steel matches with good attenance now. Another possibility. They can shoot out to one mile also.

Key will be personalities and how you run it. That can make or break you.

Research a lot before you dig!!!

I shoot f-class at reade range I live in butler just north of pittsburgh and I would be interested in a 1000 yard range that is a lil closer to get to and I got others I know that would be interested as well. Keep us posted.

Thanks guys for the advice. I would like to go check out a F Class course and see what its all about. See if I can get something going for that. Maybe even get into some competitions. I really want to get into it more. But its hard when I can't convince any of my buddies to do the same. But anyways at very least I would like to put up some nice targets with backstops I do some excavating as a side business so moving the dirt isn't an issue for me.

So what I am thinking is this. Talk to an attorney to get a CYA form made up. Hopefully by then I will have about a dozen or so people interested in doing this. Make a modest membership fee to help pay for targets and taxes. (I'm not doing this to make money, but I dont want to lose a bunch either :) ). Then hopefully with some help get a course set up and going. The place has a gate on it thats locked. But with the membership you will get a key to the gate to shoot whenever you want. There is a decent road that goes all the way up so you will be able to drive up to the targets. Oh and build some benches of course.

And who knows, long term, maybe we will get enough to put up a club house with a garage and atv to use to go back and forth from the targets. lightbulb . Doesnt hurt to dream :D

Hey guys, Also if you can. Can you send a list of people to me you think would be interested in this club? You dont have to send full names and contact info if you dont want to. But i would like to start getting an idea of the number of people that might be interested in this. The property where the place is is near Clarksville, PA. Off Rt 88. Which is the continuing road from the new 43 road. I will take some pictures soon and post so you got an idea of the layout.

So just message me, or email me at [email protected]

Thanks everybody, looking forward to possibly shooting with you guys in the future.

Ted

Ted, Clarksville is close to me and my range is getting messed up by drilling and I'm always looking for a place to hold schools. My phone # is on The Best of the West website under shooting schools . Also know quite a few in this area that are looking for a place to shoot.

I don't mean to be a downer but there's a whole lot involved with building a 1000 yard range all of which adds up to some serious costs. Everything from legal advice to potential platt approvals to public comments, and then there is the construction (baffling and backdrops and shooting stations, etc) followed by the technical stuff (targets, shooting platforms, etc). I watched this take place at a range which opened nearby.

Here's a suggestion which might save some $$$. Contact the NRA and see if you can obtain some freebie advice on what's involved for a private range including legal issues, etc.

Best of luck.

If you decide that the hoops to open up a "range" are to much of a P.I.T.A. and just want to set it up to have a few people over to do a bit of gong ringing on private land over some burgers ect. Now that sounds like a good time to me. I am in either way....gun)
I can bring a 4x4 quad to run things out to distance and back.........:D

Hmmmm..... good idea Armored Transport. I think this spring I will organize a shoot with a cookout. That way everybody can see the layout, have some fun shooting, and we can brainstorm ideas for the place. Maybe even have a little competition. I am willing to buy the food and drinks in exchange for the free advice from everyone :). I will start another thread when I figure out the date and time. In the meantime feel free to give suggestion as to what targets, competitions, or anything else we can have at the shoot.

Also someone sent me a private message. I saw it and meant to reply. But I dont know if I hit delete by accident or what? Sorry about that. But if you did send me a private message could you send it again?
