Please help me choose a scope. This is going on my factory Mark V 257wby.

The Z5 5-25x50 is only $1600 and goes to 25x magnification. However, I don't want to regret not getting the better scope. Does the Z6 have better glass? I don't know if I will ever use anything over 18x so the Z6 may be better. The Z6 is about $2250.

How can I choose?

Nope, Not joking, I verified this with swaro themselves.

Only differences that i can see are the 1" tube vs 30mm which may equate to a slightly clearer picture and the wider power range (6x vs 5x)

Personally id go with the z5 if i were you. Only slightly less power range and MAYBE slightly less picture quality but a lighter scope.

I have a z6 2.5-15x56 with BRH reticle I will let go for 1950.00 shipped..only been on the gun about 4 months. It has all the paper work and everything that came with it. Looks brand new!!

I am also looking at the Z6 3-18X50 or the 2.5-15X56 but the BRH worries me because I'm afraid that I would not be able to see the recticles in low light conditions as they look to be very fine. I think 7A or #4 recticle would be better. What is your experiance with it?

I have been in the stand well after LST. You can see them, just not as good as I would like. I have recently purchased the vortex PST and can see just fine now. Thats why I have no need for this one.

There is a significant difference between the Z5 glass and the Z6 glass. The Z6 is the equivalent of the HD version. The Z3 and Z5 have the same glass. The z6 has a much higher quality glass and you can tell that by looking through them. I have both a z5 and a Z6 and it is easygoing see the difference.

Had you talked to swaro about this?

Swaro told me that they were the same glass.

I believe the z6 can be/is brighter though as it has a 30mm tube.

Yes, I have spoken directly to Swarovski about this. They use FL glass in the Z6.

Also, the tube diameter has nothing to do with the brightness. The tube diameter is what determines the amount of motion of the erector. The objective lens is what determines how much light gets into the scope. The use of better glass and coatings is what improves transmission. The diameter of the tube does not.

If it is any help, the 257 is not real long range rifle, or are yougoing for smaller than coyote varmit?.A 20 x would, or close suffice.I had at one time Ziess 10x40, el 10x40 , and el 10x32 and I would mount my 10x40 el on tripod mount and my eye 10 years ago could hardley tell a difference in all 3.
