Does anyone have any good load data for a 300 Rum? What bullet type, weight, powder, primer, case. Will be hunting deer hogs with it, but we also just shoot a lot of paper and was hoping to be able to make a 1500 yard shot when all done.

REM brass
240 smk
US869.....99gr+ slowly
fed 215m primer

that will get the job done.. if your rifle will shoot the 240s ok.. there are A LOT of choices but this is just one of MANY!!! i only say it cause i used this load before.

not really for 1500 yards.. but id say 1k...

REM brass
165 nosler accubond
R-22......96gr (max)
fed 215m

thats a fast flat good load.

My best load has been 92 grains of Retumbo, 208 Amax, Fed 215.
Chrono's around 3050. I have loaded it to 94 grains, but best accuracy was at 92. I seat them at 3.675 and it's a 1/2 to 3/4moa load.

although i just got my 300 rum sendero, i am interested in this also. i just ordered 100 berger 230g hybrid's(not OTM). plan on single feeding them and was curious as to who has tried them yet? i emailed berger and got reloading data for that bullet, seems like retumbo and H1000 are the top two powder choices.

Ceilingman,

First, the 300 RUM is not a cartridge to get if your interests are punching a lot of paper. It can be severe on barrels and top accuracy will not last long punching a lot of paper.

However the 300 RUM is a serious long range hunting cartridge with excellent capability. It is a specialty cartridge to get specifically for that purpose. Work up your load data and then use it as a hunting rifle only and it will last you many years.

I have been shooting the 300 RUM case in several calibers since 1998 before it was introduced at the shot show in 99. During the past year I have made several shots on big game with the 300 RUM a little over and under 1000 yards. It will shoot to 1500 yards accurately with the heaviest bullets best for that like the 240 smk and the new 230 berger hybrid. However it is not a good choice as a hunting rifle to go much beyond 1000 yards because there are others that are much better for that purpose you should consider if that is your objective. For hunting beyond 1000 yards the 338 calibers and larger are a much better choice with much better barrel life.

I have shot probably everything on the market for the 300 RUM. The best load I have found for hunting is the 180 grain C21 Cutting Edge bullet with 97.5 grains of Retumbo and a fed 215 match. My 1000 yard drops are showing a bc right at .6. This load shoots 3450-3470 fps out of my 300 RUM's with extreme accuracy. Run the numbers on that and you see why I shoot it. This load is the best I have found that best fits the capability of the rifle as a hunting cartridge to a 1000 or little more yards. If you want to go 1500 yards and punch quite a bit of paper you need to bump up to a 338 caliber for barrel wear and better 1500 yard ballistics on animals. I am not saying the 300 RUM will not do the 1500 yard kills on deer because it will very effectively with the heavy bullets. But when the barrel wear issue and the fact the 338 is better at that range I would lean in that direction. Run the numbers and you see why I shoot what I do to serve the range the cartridge is best capable.

Retumbo is the best powder for the 300 RUM and long range shooting. It will give you the best velocity/pressure ratios of any of the temperature extreme powders.

And always remember the best changes yearly as newer products come out every year that one up the previous products.

I've loaded the 180 Scirocco with Re25 which was amazing. The 200 AB with both H1000 and Retumbo worked very well. I started to test US869.

I haven't shot my 300 since 2006 and have yet to test many bullets with better BCs.

I found that when Shilen chambered the rifle and installed their bbl on my action, even the 210 Berger can barely be seated and I'm still quite far from the lands so there is a LOT of jump with anything.

RE25 gives great performance in it but most go with the new temp extreme powders. I use 25 all the time and keep my bullets in my pocket when hunting to keep them at the same temp. H-870 is the best powder for the 300 RUM that I have found but again that temp thing.
