I just stumbled on this on the savage website, The Savage 12 LRP in 260. I wish it was stainless or that the 12 BVSS came in 260 but it looks like the LRP is the only option in a long heavy barreled rifle. Who has one and how does it shoot? I am very interested in them

I too like this version except for 2 things one of which is I too want SS. the other is I think these are short actions. they would be in other makers rifles so perhaps it is a wrong assumption.

That is why I am considering a special order to Savage.

I would actually like it in a single shot anyway so short action is fine, I would probably put it in a different stock and put a sled in the magazine port, my biggest hang up is it not being stainless, i wish the bvss came in 260... maybe ill buy one and put a different barrel on it...

Why don't you just buy a SS Target action already set up for single shot and put the barrel of your choice on in the caliber of your choice. Not to mention you can then stock it in what every you want (well that fits the target action)? Just a thought.

Here's a nice set up:
Savage Taget action 6oz.-1.5# trigger single shot, left port, right bolt $475-500
Stockade prarie dog/tactical $235 money saver + $50 for the extra hole for the target action.
SSS or Stockade recoil lug $25-30
Sin-Arms Lothar Barrel $275
You assemble in your basement-Free!

Total w/o tax & shipping= $1060 low end or $1090 unless you get a finished stock then it goes up.

I have one on order in 260, scheduled to arrive in about a month. It was a four month delivery time, supposedly high demand. I bought it after seeing one used by a shooter at one of our matches. His was in a 243 and shot exceptionally well, sub .5MOA. It has a decent composite stock, and target accutrigger. I also would prefer it were stainless but if it shoots, thats not a big deal. I'm looking forward to getting it.

It sounds to me like you need to head over to Savageshooters.com and get a target action from Northlander and then buy the barrel and stock you want. I am sure the LRP will shoot. I have a buddy that has a 204 LRPV that will shoot with my Coopers.
