I'm wanting to purchase either of these rifles for long range shooting locally. I want the best accuracy for the money. Second, I intend to hunt with it thus coming winter. Which one of these will give me the best moa without buying a custom rifle?I'm looking at 7 mag. 7 Rum, 300 magazine, 300 rum, and lastly. 308. This will be my first long range gun, and will likely be a stepping stone to a custom rifle later. What doyou think should I hold out for a custom rig, or just get what I can now?

Well looking at the workload of most competent gunsmiths, you most likely won't be getting a custom rifle made by next winter even if you put the order in today. The Sendero II rifles are extemely good rifles. I have one and it shoots really well. The problem with any RUM is that it is a barrel burner so you will be going through a few barrels in your lifetime with the gun. If that is not a problem for you then the RUMs are performers for sure. I have been talking to some people on here recently and have decided when the time is right that I am going to get a custom 300 win mag. The barrel will most likely last me for the rest of my life.

If you need a gun by next winter, I would just get a Sendero II in your choosing. There is one on this site that is for sale right now in 7 mm magnum. You could use it until you can afford upgrades for it and even put a custom barrel on in ur choice of caliber. Looks like a good deal to me. http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f25/remington-sendero-sf-ii-sale-83606/

You left out the 7mm STW.

Either the 7mm STW or 300 Rum will set a guy up awfully well.

With such a varied list of calibers though I'd have to ask what you'll be hunting and maximum range.

Really hard to say much without that info.

As for the platform, either should do very fine for you with just a basic floating and bedding job.

You can certainly go the route of a full custom if you want, but it will require a long wait and a much larger investment on the front it.

If you decide to go that route Look at Len's LR packages, some of which he keeps ready to go/in stock and/or our sponsors who build customs.

What do you mean by expected MOA? If you are meaning MOA up or down at certain distances then that all depends on what the BC of the bullet is and how fast you are pushing said bullet. If you are asking how far out that you can shoot it, it depends on what you are shooting at. You can shoot at targets past 1k but if you are going to shoot something like an elk then might be limited to 600 to 700 yds (some people will say that you shouldn't use a 7mm on elk but it comes down to shot placement). If you are just going to shoot deer then 800 yards would work. Others with more experience with the 7mm mag should be able to chime in and tell you a bit more about it. That gun was on your list so I thought you might want to look at it.

If it were me and I was going to get a Sendero II, it would be a 300 win mag.

What would be the expected moa of the 7 mag you suggested?

COOP I do not see where you say what you are shooting at. coyotes? deer?? i have two 7's and a 300 sendero. they will shoot better than you can

Will be hunting deer. They are on our farm of 1200 acres. Some of the shots could be in the 500 yard range or more depending on my location.I'm shooting at 350 now confidently with a. 308 I want something with a little more punch.

It was the expect moa at 100 yard. To determine a group at a much longer distance. My 308 model 600 shoots 1.5" groups at 100 yards with much shorter barrel

Youi should be able with just basic accurizing get either the 5R Mispec or Sendero's to shoot at or below MOA.

If deer is the toughest game you are going to be shooting at and at sub 750yds ranges, of the calibers you mentioned the 7 rem mag or 300WM would be ideal although I consider the 7STW to be completely superior to both.

COOP- based on what you said. i would get either a 264 or 7mm sendero. 7stw are good; but hard to find.

For a factory rifle, I like the Remington 700 Sendero SF II. The barrels have twist rates that will allow you to shoot most of the larger high BC bullets on the market today. For a long range Deer rifle, I like the good old Rem 7mm Mag. It has served me well in places like W. Texas, Kansas, etc. where 300 plus yard shots are the norm.

You should be able to squeeze out 1.25" MOA 100 yard 3 shot groups easily and most will group much better with custom reloads; probably under 1.00 MOA. I had the same basic heavy barrel rifle in 22-250 (Model 700 VS SF Varmint Synthetic Stainless Fluted) and it shot 5 shot groups of 55 grain Noslers at 3800 fps into a .75" hole at 200 yards. But, that rifle has a 1:12 twist and would not stabilize a bullet heavier than 55 grains.

The Sendero is a good base rifle for customization too. Custom trigger, stock, barrel, bottom metal you will have a good shooter for sure. I did this with one of my 700 actions and came out with a 7mm that shoots 5 shot .5"ish groups at 100 yards using 168 grain Bergers.

Get the best scope, base, and rings that you can afford. As for the rifle too, you get what you pay for.

I just had a custom 243 Ackley built by Lester Bruno. He did it in 4 months because unlike most other builders, he stocks barrels, actions, triggers, etc. It would have been 8 weeks but had to wait on the reamer. Of course I could have bought 3 Senderos for the same price.

A lot of people parrot things they have heard about "barrel burners". Truth is most hunters would not shoot 2000 rounds through a rifle in 3 life times, even if it is the only one they own. But, as with anything else, there is a price to be paid for speed and power. If you shoot that much plan on spending $700-800 on a new custom barrel when it no longer groups.

If your thinking new I wouldn't. I would try to find a deal on a used 7rm or .300wm and see how it shoots. If it doesn't shoot good enough then spend the money you saved on a good barrel. Send it to one of the barrel manufactures and have them fit it and true the action. Or have someone else true the action and have the barrel manufacturer fit it.

also cartridge availability is one of my concerns. I don't load anything yet, so I'd like the opportunity to purchase some of the "luxury end ammo" off the shelf. Thanks for all of the replies and help.

I bought a Sendero in 300 RUM in 2010 to use on Colorado elk hunts when I do not want to lug my 15 lb. 338 Edge up the steeper slopes. I skim bedded the Sendero and installed a Jewel trigger. It shoots 1 inch groups at 200 yards with 180 gr. Barnes TTSX bullets at 3265 fps. My load is 97.0 grains of Retumbo, CCI 250 primers and RP brass.

I was very happy to take this nice bull with it on 11/6/11 near Cimarron, CO.
