LONG range 260 Remington?

Anyone shooting ANYTHING...from bedsheets to baboons with a .260..? Wondering how some feel about its long range accuracy; hitting energy...etc???

Shot one doe so far at about 810 yds. She died in a lump with a spine shot.

Four coyotes between 400-750. None ran more than 30yds before piling up.

Under the right conditions I'd use it for anything smaller than Elk or big Hogs out to 900yds. On the bigger critters I think I'll stick with a 750-800yds limit for now.

WIth the right rig and ammo it's extremely deadly accurate.

Dont really know as of yet...thats why Im asking what someone else is doing with theirs

So I would imagine the 260 will outperform it but would not be my choice. Still, when I build my children their first hunting rifle, it will be either a 260 or 270.

Not sure on the case but 6.5 mm bullets shoot very well at long range. I push them with a 6.5 x55 improve and have taken many deer at over 500 yards and coyotes past 600. If you look on paper a good 6.5 MM projectile starting of at 3000 fps can carry over a 1000 ft/lb out to around 700 yards or better and that is the rule of thumb for deer. Having said that you still have to put the bullet in the right spot at any range and shot placement trumps FT/LBs of energy any time. The 260 should preform very similar to my 6.5x 55 improved so if the gun is a shooter it should be hard to bet for a long range hunting gun.

I am shooting a 260 in long range varmint matches. We shoot steel targets,crows at 850.groundhogs at 900,bobcats at 950 and coyotes at 1000 yards. With a 140 gr. bullet it knocks the targets down very easy. Very accurate cartridge.

I used to shoot a 6.5x47mm Lapua, which is ballistically very similar to a .260 rem. I shot and dropped an antelope at 670yards this year. Bullet performance was not good, but i believe with the correct bullet, .260 class chamberings are 800, maybe 900yard deer killers. For that kind of shot i would strongly recommend the 140gr A-max, as they have a solid reputation to open at low impact velocities.
For closer range, say out to 700yards, i would not hesitate to use something like the excellent 130gr Berger VLD.

To ALL: Thanks for the replys and input. I wasnt sure just how well this cartridge was going to work out...but now all my "fears" have been squelched. Much appreciated.
