500 yard bullet impact

here is what a .22lr looks like when it hits steel at 500 yards. It is alot flatter then i expected it to be

I have shot a few different brands of ammo at it so im not sure whats what as far as what you see, I shoot mostly Blazers

I am shooting a cz 452 scout with a tasco 2.5x10-42mm scope. I shoot mostly blazer ammo, I crank the scope as much as it will go. then hold about 8 mil high. shooting at a 30inch concrete cutting saw blade.

There's a very good reason why the flaps on .22 Rimfire ammo are labeled "Dangerous with 1-1/4 miles".

I was just wondering because I have a 10/22 w/ a leupold vx3 4.5x14x40 that has about 125 minutes of elevation and about 100/thou of up in the base and while I have been successful getting to 400 on steel I have not registered any 500 yard impacts.

Still its pretty cool to know they will get to 500 and still have enough left to flatten out like that. JS aka 308

I was just messing around with the Seirra I6 program...using CCI 22LR....bunch of different weights....punched in "maximum range". I tried a bunch of them...couldn't find one that got to a mile.

I plan on pushing the .22lr to its limits, I have done some shooting at 600 yards, I am waiting on a new scope base for shooting past 500, When shooting at 600 i have to back my scope off to 8x and it gets hard to spot misses to see where im hitting. should have it tomorrow.

On a similar note. I was out testing bullet penetration and weight retention at 200 yds in wet news paper. After I was finished I shot one shot with my 10/22 with American Eagle 38 grn HP. Made an elevation correction and did a double tap. Drove out and started peeling layers of paper one bullet had penetrated 8 inches. Paper was packed pretty tight in box. HP had failed to open probably due to loss of velocity.
3000 WSM 150 grn .308 Fail Safe pushed right on through 16 inches of wet paper with a 3" exit hole.

I haven't done any shooting at phone books. Is the penetration into wet paper similar to flesh?

My impression is that the paper would be denser. I'd also read that you could expect about 3 times more penetration in animals.

That's because it's a Ruger. Get a CZ you'll see the difference.
