Hornady Super Performance Powder

I am wanting to try some of the new Hornady Super Performance powder with some 95 gr. SST's in my .243. Not having much luck finding anything. Does anybody have any info on it?

midwayusa.com has it for $22.99 in the 1# size and also has 8# containers. Hogdon is doing it under the dual name of Hogdon Hornady according to the package labe and ad.

Sorry, I wan't very clear in my post. I already have the powder, I am looking for load data. I bought the powder before doing any searching for load info. I use the .243 for deer and am loading 95 gr. sst's.

i started at 43 grains and worked up to my load i use 100 grains but it should be a place to start

I bought a box of the manufactured rounds which my 243 hates. I pulled the bullets and measures the powder on 10 rds and the average is 48.4 grs. I've been told that the Superpormance powder on the shelf that we buy is not the same powder that Hornady loads for the 95gr SST. I'm going to start around 46grs and work my way up. Good luck!

I shot 9 rounds yesterday. 41,41.5 and 42 gr.95 SST. Groups were not so good. 3-4 inches. Maybe I can go more. Can't find any load data.

I can't help you on load data, though I seem to recall that Hodgdon may have a pdf file on their website that 'might' contain data for the 243...

In a phone call with a Hodgdon tech., they told me that Hornady has 40 different "blends" of this Superformance powder. All for different rounds.

Hodgdon just "picked one" and brought it to market. Per our phone conversation, it has a very narrow window where it surpasses existing powders for velocity.

Also, per my phone conversation, it is slightly slower in relative burn speed than H4831 (and is listed accordingly in Hodgdon's lates burn rate chart).


I plan to try some Superformance in my 30-280 Ackley Improved, as Hodgdon's technician thought it "just might work" in that round.

After reading about it on the hogden website and visiting with them on the phone I found that there are only a few calibers that the superformance powder will work with. It will do poorly in other calibers. The loaded rounds from Hornady are really a blend of diffrent powders that include the superformance powder. Brad

I have been using superformance in my 6 mm Remington. I have been using 47 grains under 100 grain interlock B.T. and some 100 grain Sierra's. I am getting 3000ft/sec with good accuracy. I think you could get a little faster velocity with a longer barrel but I am shooting a 660 Remington that has a very short barrel. I ran some of the Hornady factory amo that said they had a muzzle velocity of 3100 ft/sec in my gun and could only get 2950 out of it so my hand loads running at 3000 are probably about all I can get out of that gun.
I took 5 deer and and 4coyotes with that gun this fall so I am happy and will go with the theory that when something is working don't fix it.
The 243 is so close to a 6mm Rem I should think you could start around 44 grains and work up.
I have 22-250 A.I that I am going to try it in next. Hoping it will work with some 80 and 90 grain VLDs.

Thanks north of 53. I guess maybe I was a little low at 42gr. Maybe I'll move up to 44 and try again. I'm a little nervous because the gun is not a bolt action. It's an Apex break open. Probably not as strong as a bolt. I don't want to eat any metal chunks. I'm ugly enough the way it is.

here is what i have for load data on the 243useing the superformance powder start out 39.7gr max is 44.4gr myself i use 41.8 gr with 95gr sst and i can cover 3 shots with a dime
