Who pieced together a savage?

A few months ago a guy had a savage that he pieced together himself and I cant remember who it was or what it was specifically that he built, but if I remember correctly it was an extreme budget build that came out as a tackdriver. Does anyone rememebr this thread or know who it was? I would like to read over that thread again. I am wanting to do a similar build just for S&G's

alot of guys, including myself, have done this. its easy and fun. mine shot 1/4 moa with tuned loads. ive got 2000 rounds down the tube and its opened to about 1/2. just sent the barrel in for a rechamber should be back soon!gun)

I would have to look back and figure prices but I built mine pretty cheap, .260 Rem, shoots 1 hole groups at 100, havent shot any farther with it yet, took a decent buck with it last month.

If you want to do it cheap, you need to find used parts. Buy a used Stevens or Savage rifle. Sell the stock and original barrel, unless it is a contour and caliber you want. Then look into the other stuff. Guys are building these things w/o glass for less than $700. You may be able to do it w/ glass if you score a good deal. Just may take time to accumulate the parts.

Mike, it may have been my post on my johnny cash rifle, it started as a 110E 7mag used, swapped boltheads and firing pin assemblies from a stevens 30-06, used a 3 screw trigger and tupperware stock from a 112f, and bought a model 10fcp 308 take off from a member for 80$, it shot a .271" 7 shot group at 100yrds. Now it has a rifle basix trigger, b&c duramax, new wolff springs, and is bedded. Originally before the trigger and stock and such I had less than 300$ in it without the scope, 675 with the base scope and rings, now its still under 1k.

I have a question for you savage gurus. I want to build something with a stevens 200 action, I'm thinking long action, manners t4 or t2, cdi bottom metal with the AI 5 round and a flutted barrel. Any suggestions are welcome. Not sure how I'm going to find a flutted barrel.

Oh and do you think I will be able to feed 6.5 x 284 reliably?

A Stevens 200 long action is a fine doner for a mag fed 6.5x284, but as mentioned a custom inletted manners, mcmillan, or stockade are your only stock options unless you go with the blind magazine and use a bell and carlson duramax, you will also want a rifle basix or SSS trigger, any of the savage prefit barrel makers can add the fluting for 100-175$ depending on the maker. Also new firing pin spring, SSS, callahan, or badger recoil lug, and then it all needs to be timed(for bolt and trigger lockup).

Check out the Choate Tactical. I have 2 on my savages. 1 a long action and 1 a short action. For the price they are a good stock. I bedded them myself.
I got mine from Tactical Works. They also have one with a detachable magazine setup. It is a little more but a good setup.

i use Mcgowen for my barrels. many will argue about fluting but in my opinion it causes uneven barrel expansion. i dont use them on my lr guns. my ar10 has fluting for cooling onlygun)
