Buying a new gun need help choosing

So I had a 338 lapua mag bought, but the deal fell through now I am looking for a new rifle. I am a dedicated 308 shooter but am looking for a 1000 yard elk gun... maybe a 300 wsm, 7mm rem mag, 6.5284,300 win mag or the lapua I also plan on shooting our local long range shoot that is once a month in the summer and is 300-1300 yards and 60 rounds what would you guys recommend???

Gonna go with a savage probably either way as I don't have the funds for a custom right now.

300WM using the 210-230 Berger, or the Lapua. Either will work on Elk to 1000.

1000 yards on elk...while the 300winmag will get the job done, I think you need to be thinking 300RUM or BIGGER

Ideas..?? How about practicing to get a lot closer than 1000 yards and use a 308 you think so much of.. Hows that for an idea?

I don't know who pi@@sed in your cherrios, but I don't need help getting close thats not what I asked for just been looking at a long range hunting gun thought thats what this forum was for. If I want to get close I'll use my recurve

I shoot a Howard Hill Longbow...40 Yards...I also compete in XTC and LONg Range to 1000...with a 6XC.

Im a dedicated elk hunter, and I would pick 300win,rum, or go for the Lapua 338. If I was shooting 60 rnds @ a shoot I would go 6.5 or 300 wsm, Which I dont consider 1000+ elk guns

7 mag 175 grain. non of you will consider it but l just love the 7 mag. and dont say it wont get the job done cause it will. but ofcourse there are not better but more powerfull rounds out there. whats the thing with you gus abd big guns? if you wanna shoot a big gun why dont buy a 20mm canon aor better get an A1M1 ABRAMS TANK LOL

Have you ever shot any of the big 338's?

If not, I'd strongly suggest you find someone that has one that will let you shoot ten rounds down range with it in a half hour.

If the recoil and blast don't eat you up and make you start flinching then they are all great thousand yard and further rifles.

If it does bother you, then give the 300 Rum and 7mm STW a look.
