Looking to get a coyote gun and was wondering what you would recomend for them. I have been looking at a 243 and 22-250 but have not been sold on either as of yet. Also I have only hunted and owned remington 700s and was wondering which is prefer as to the 700 or the savage? Thanks

Both are excellent choices, you can't go wrong with either that's for sure.
If you only plan to shoot varmints and such the 22-250 is plenty. If you think you will ever want this rifle to maybe be your varmint/deer gun the .243 would be more versatile.
As for Remmy or Savage, that would be a hard choice for me. I love just about anything on a Rem 700 BUT I'm pretty sure Savage makes a 22-250 with a 1-9tw and that would let you take more advantage of the horsepower with heavier bullets.
As much as it pains me to say this, mostly becasue I think the Savage actions are butt freaking ugly, I would have a VERY difficult time NOT picking the Savage if I were looking for a factory off the shelf gun. Just about all the factory Savages I've been around shoot **** well. That's not to say the Rem 700 factory guns don't but if I were going to take my chances with a factory rifle that I knew I was going to keep "stock", I would probably pick the Savage. Now, if you ever think you will rebarrel or modify the rifle you are looking at getting, a Rem 700 would be my first choice.

How far are you shooting these coyotes?
My main coyote rifle is a Tikka T3 lite, stainless, synthetic I have a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 with ballistic plex reticle. This set up is rough and tumble and deadly accurate for me. 22-250
But, it is a 1-14" twist. I shoot 52gr. Amax at 3770fps.
The faster twist would be nice, and when I finally rebarrel, it'll be a 1-9" twist rate.

6mm Remington

You might want to look at a 6mm Remington. Remington chambered their Limited Edition CDL Stainless in this cartridge again. It's a great round for coyotes and works very well for deer and antelope if you should later want to try hunting them.
I shoot a Ruger #1B in 6mm for coyotes, deer, and antelope. It is fast and flat shooting and packs more pop out there on those longer shots at coyotes you might have.

+1 on the 6mm. Mines and older model 7 remmy. It's pretty hard to beat, as it fills the hole between the 243 and the 22-250 nicely. It'll do everything that that you need with the option of bigger critters. The only down side is the bullet sellection isn't as good as the 243 or 22-250.
If you just want a regular old caliber that is to get ammo for then go with the 243 or 25-06. If you reload, I would get a savage in 6.5 creedmore. I don't shoot for fur so I go with the heavier guns for coyotes that still have little recoil. I want the coyote anchored right there no matter where you hit them.

The 243 is a good cal.for that range. I have used that cal. and a Burris 3x9 Fullfield ballistc plx with very good results on mule deer and white tail and coyotes,fun to shoot at a low cost.A adjustabe trigger on the Tikka 3 is something I would consider.I do have a Savage 223 and I miss that easy adj.My triggers are set at 2.3oz. My groups got better by adj. the trigger pull from 3.8oz.to 2.3oz.I just use a electronic fish scale to measure the trigger pull,slow and steady along the stock repeatedy,works for me.

Alot of guns other than Remington. I grew up with them to. I have 3 that need trigger replacement . Looking at trading for Savage predator , Wby- Vanguard , Browning Varmint, TC Venture.

I have a 22-250 savage predator 10 max-1 with the accustock. I am shooting 55gr vmax's over 38gr of H380 win brass and cci BR2 primers. For a factory rifle, it consistently will put three bullets in the same hole with this load at 100yds. To say the least, it is freaking awesome! But on a side note, it is a savage. But I didn't buy it to make it a hot rod gun, if I wanted that, buy a remington and rebuild. It is a dedicated dog gun, so I dont mind if it gets a little dinged here and there. If you don't mind the fit and feel of the savage, don't hesitate to pick up one of their rifles.

0-500 yards the 22-250 is hard to beat. Over 500 yds the 90-105 grain 6mm bullet will be hard to beat in an 1:8 twist barrel.
