Hey all, I recently moved from Minnesota to IL for work, I am now looking for a range somewhat near Chicago that I can shoot mid-long range.

I am in the western suburbs and willing to travel 1-2 hours for a good range.

Most of the ranges I find in Illinois are 100yd or less and I am looking for something I can practice and improve my skills and handloads, especially from 200-500yd. I am not against crossing into Wisconsin (Milwaukee is 2 hours and Beloit is just under 2 hours) or Indiana (Gary and Crown Point are both 1 1/2 hours).

So far the best option I have found is Aurora Sportsmen's Club in Waterman, IL, they are an hour away, but I think their membership fees are crazy - new members pay $280 "initiation fee" plus $280 a year, so just to get started is $560... They offer 25, 50, 100, 200, and 600 yd ranges...

Suggestions welcome!!

I was going to PASA near quincy for 600 yds but when I figured the gas +time the fee for ASC is not that bad. Racine also has 600 yds and is a little faster to get to than Lodi

Before I joined the military and left IL I used to go to FOX VALLEY GUN RANGE.

I'm sorry but I don't remember and location of fee's details.....

Was within 2 hours of Chicago if I remmeber correctly.

There is a 600 yard range north of Racine, just off the lakeshore,

7 mile road???

almost certainly does not exist anymore

There is a public range in Shiocton, about an hour-hour and a half north of Milwaukee. They have a 'donation box' and I think they as for $3 per person for the day. They have a berm out to 400 or 500 yards. I know its a little farther then you would like, but it will do you good to get out of IL! :)

great story of this range, it is municipal owned, they were considering putting in a pool but with the short season put the range as an alternative and the voters chose the range

I didn't know that. Its a nice place, I've always been there when there is snow on the ground, but it looks like they have a nice archery setup as well.
