A buddy of mine who bought a 7mm saum from me has recently gotten his own loading setup. He wanted to keep using a load that I have used extensively in this rifle consisting of fed 215 remington brass magpro and 150 gr scirrocco. He is pretty new to reloading and only had rem 9 1/2M on hand so i suggested that he back off a tad and creep up on my original powder charge. He did so and went to try tem out. He called and said his bolt handle flew off and his action was siezed. After much prying I finally got him to admit that he "may" have accidintly gotten his jug of TAC confused with his Magpro as they have simular shapes and he was in a hurry! So he lit off 67 grains of TAC and still has all his fingers and eyes. Out of curiosity I would like to find out what kind of pressure that was, and tell him exactly how much he should be thanking his lucky stars.

I had to check for myself and AJ is correct on the pressure, over twice the rated pressure. Convince your friend to have his gun checked out by someone qualified to see if the over pressure damaged the gun.
Next time you see him give him a hug and then whack him for not paying attention.

He was "In a hurry" to get ready for an upcoming hunt and was distracted by his kids who were running in and out of the room. Two things I told him NOT to do while loading. He says the bolt handle was in his lap after the shot and the best he can tell the bolt has rotated towards the open position to some degree but will not open (Thank God). I believe the lugs are most likely sheared but can not imagine why the bolt would have rotated. At that pressure though who knows, kinda surprised the front ring did not come apart. I will be home in a couple weeks to check it out and get it to the doctor. Will post results after the autopsy.
