I have a Rem 700 308 varmitt,Just upgraded to the Bell and Carson A5 over the A2 stock .The A2 everything fit good and the mag would run.Trying to fit the stock to the Wyatt's plate/mag. The stock the rear pillar is drilled at a angle, the rear hole like were they bolted it to something to machine it mashed the top of the hole, the holes in the stock are off to one side of the bottom metal cut out,on the rear bolt hole had to file the angled pillar just to get the bolt in.all bolted up,everything fitting better now, the mag is bound up in the mag well. Like the directions said put a spacer under the plate, the SS flat washer Ive tried is .054 thick.the gun want run/feed.the bullet tip goes down when ya try to feed,Ive tried change the shim/washer from front to rear ,this makes it bing up again,I'm being told to try a bunch of different thickness's shim/washers,like starting with .020.

Does anybody have any advice or experience in this?

Stockystocks had sent out another stock A5 replacement and it was machined wrong also, just alike.

Bell and Carson was no help!! they said there stocks are made to only fit stock Rem bottom metal.Said I could send it back they would analyze it:rolleyes:That Warranty voided if I modified it,corrected.

Wyatt's hasn't respond to any emails or calls this week,

Ive been all around town and cant find any shim/washer thinner than .054. The bolts are 1/4 x28.The washer I have is 7mm,od is .465.Ive tried sanding down the SS washer,10 minutes I got .002,lol
The other washers Ive measured 1/4 17/64 9/32 are all .050 something thick

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated .

Thanks
Rob

.

I bought another Rem700 in 223 and put the old B&C A2 and a new Wyatt's mag kit in it.It all fits good and runs and shoots good.:)

I hope I gave anough info,The mag well is not touching the inside of the stock,it may be touching the center peice of the stock inbetween the triger and magwell.

With out the washer the front magwell looks like its touching the botom of the action,by the chanber.

Thanks again

Hold the rem bdl floorplate next to the wyatts and look at the angles of the flats that contact the stock, a rem bdl has the 2 flats front and back on different planes. See if the wyatts is flat and on the same plane, this could be the issue. That and the wyats could be contacting the center bridge of material in the stock causing it to be a fulcrum.

Another question, I shot it a few times last weekend single feed, when I took it apart the recoil lug on the barrel made a whiteness mark on the recoil pad of the stock.its only touching about 1/4 of the area of the recoil lug, just off center about .125 wide x .750 long. so its not flush with the stock recoil pad/aluminum.I put some dykem on it to check it the next time I fire it.

I assume it should/needs to be making more contact???

Thanks
Rob:)

Heres some picks after working on it,any suggestions or criticism

Per this pic...

Neither one of these floor plates fit properly.

The rear most fits fine up front and goes to pot as you go back towards the trigger guard

The foremost pic it fits near the trigger guard and as you come forward the "fit" goes to pot.

Its not some "drop in" job...it requires "fitting".

Thanks for the reply

I seem to remember if I loosen one end/screw at a time the that end does come up,

But also when bolted up ,the metal magwell is hanging below the stock magwell area so much I thought this was not right, but was told it wasn't abnormal. So I pushed on the metal in that area and it seemed to flex some.thinking that, that center part might be making it stick out.but you can see the stock mag well are looks to be recessed for some reason making it hang out,

I would think this would be something that would catch the mag/clip when trying to put it in,like on some AR"s they bevel the magwell also.

Both guns were the adl no floor plate,so I have nothing to compare it to,I know both Wyatts plates oldone and the new look to be exactly the same,Wyatt's told me the same person that makes the floor plates for Remington custom shop makes his,I assume and its looks CNC.

Thanks

Im sorry Im all new to guns,so Im lacking on what its supose look/fit like.Ive got alittle idear though. Ive messed with race cars and race boats and stuff,Im use to having to make stuff fit.So how do I make all this line up and run?

If I put spacers to bring it flush in one area and cut down/out the recesed floor plate area stock, that will make the pillar shorter making it were I have to add more spacer/shim to get the magwell the right distance to the botom of the action. I think thats were I am at now ,When I feed the bolt catches the casing and tilts the bullet downward hitting the flat part below the feed ramp/throat.

Thanks
Rob:)

Also will putting the shim washer/spacer between the plate and stocks aluminum bedding hurt the acurcy? It seems like pillar should be the right height/lenght so ya dont have to rig it with shim washer/spacers? To me this would give it a area that could shift/move?

Thanks
Rob:)

With comments such as you made about the contact area of the recoil lug......If I were you I'd box up everything I had there and go see a real gunsmith and have him bed both rifles.

Does bedding do anything to were the rifle recoil lug contacks the Stock's recoil pad?

Thanks

Bell and Carlson makes a good stock but they don't gurantee a 100% drop in fit.

They will routinely take some additional inletting/tweaking by someone that knows what they are doing to get to that 100% fit and finish.

You have a couple of options.

Call B&C and see if you can send in the whole mess and get them to fit it properly.

Take it to a qualified gunsmith who knows how to do it.

Live with what you have now if the hardware functions and ammo feeds right.

Last see if the replacement Stocky's sends you will fit any better.

Getting to a 100% custom fit/finish takes a lot of work. That's why stock smith's get paid well for doing it.

You can sand that contact point out Or raise the front of the action a little when you bed the recoil lug into place by using about three thicknesses of duct tape on the bottom of the recoil lug when you bed it.
