After a lot of research, I ended up ordering a 6.5x284 from Gunwerks. Not cheap, but they do a lot of extra work after the build to give you a complete system. I live in the Bay Area and the nearest 1000 yd range is 3 hours away, so I spent a few extra bucks to have someone do it for me. Pretty excited...but now the waiting game starts:(

Congrats! How long is the wait?

Their components are top notch! Should be a real shooter. Let us know how things go when you get it.

Are you reloading for it or shooting their ammo?

It's close to six months. One thing I have to say is that Mike is a good guy. I almost went with a Cooper, but whenI found out that they gave $ to Obama, it was an easy choice. American dollars to an American company that shares my same views. There's nothing better than that.

Bravo! More folks need to invest the time figuring out what the companies they buy from stand for!

I have a LR 1000 in 7mm LRM you wont be disapointed and boy do they shoot. Congrats on a very fine rifle. Im actually thinking about another in 6.5x284.

Joe,

Funny...I was really struggling, even at the last moment, whether to go with the 7mm. I still have doubts whether I made the right decision. Maybe we could trade our rifles back and forth and save the $$:D

Kinda yeah... Dan Cooper, the Founder of the company donated $3300 to Obama's campaign... & they fired him for it. Dan is no longer with the company he founded as a direct result of his actions. There is nothing wrong with Cooper, just their founder and as a company, they made it VERY clear how they felt about it.

Not trying to be mean, just wanted to add the best part of the story.:D

Yeah, it's a bad situation. I feel for the employees, as they had nothing to do with it. The good thing is that they make a great product, and the few people like me that might buy somewhere else, won't affect their business much. The bad thing is Dan Cooper is probably a large shareholder and still benefits greatly in the success of the company. Hopefully, he has learned his lesson and doesn't give $ to people trying to take away our rights. It wasn't too long ago when Obama was pushing for gun control because of the amount of weapons getting into Mexico. Funny....the whole time it was his administration that was pushing the guns into Mexico.

Trojan your from the Bay Area that means your a Barbara Boxer supporter, right?? Just kidding. Let us all know how the whole process goes with Gunwerks.

Agreed, it's a shame that more shooters don't understand all the history. For the money, the Cooper remains one of the most accurate, and best made semi-custom rifles available, with impeccable service and warranty. In 2009, Cooper Arms was acquired by Wilson Arms to become Cooper Firearms of Montana. The owner, Wilson Arms is a strong supporter of the NRA and pro gun political candidates. The operational staff at Cooper never supported the political views of Dan Cooper and considered him an a@&hole for supporting Obama. The corrective action was taken pretty fast.....2009.

To answer a few questions:

I like Boxer, but Pelosi is my favorite!:)

I will likely be buying Cooper rifles in the future. I was thinking of buying a Best of the West rifle all set up. It was a combination of preferring a Nightforce, Cooper/Obama, and already working with Mike from Gunwerks on a 338 Dakota that I bought.

I'm not sure about a free long range class, but I do think you get a good discount. So far, they seem like really solid people.

Having a good day....brought the whole family, nieces and nephews included, to LA for Homecoming USC vs Washington game. 1st game for all the kids....all the little Trojans are really excited. Hope we finish the day with a win!
