Just shot a groundhog at 449 yards. Using a Remington VSSF in 22-250 shooting a Sierra 53 gr. HP Match bullet at 3567 fps. Using a Leupold 24x scope sighted in for 200 yards. Used the Shooter program for Android to figure a 5.8 M.OA drop. One shot kill
Didn't have to wait long at all, maybe ten minures. Ended the afternoon with two groundhogs and one coyote. We used to have lotd of groundhogs and a few coyotes. Now we have lots of coyotes and a few groundhogs.
Went back to the same farm this weekend. The groundhogs must be trying to add on fat before the winter sets in. They were wearing out the alfalfa. I figured it would be too cold for them with temps in the forties at night but the mid-day sun had them out feeding. Carried the Remington 700 in 17 Remington Fireball. I didn't figure on shooting more than 200 yards and I knew I'd be shooting around the farm buildings. Shot one big male at about 75 yards that was denning in a tool shed. The one in the photo was in the same field I killed the hog and coyote. He was at 178 yards with about a 15 mph cross wind. He was a toad. Felt like he'd top 30 pounds. With the 17 Fireball there was no exit hole and I couldn't find the entrance. I put him out at the edge of a corn field at 407 yards hoping to catch a yote on him latter but the wind was really bad today so I stayed in. Next time maybe.

It's a program called "Shooter" written by Sean Kennedy for the Android based phones. You can download it on the Android Market. I think it was $9.99 to download. I run it on my Droid Bionic. Very good ballistics program. It even loads current conditions such as temperature, barometric pressure, wind, altitude, etc.. The good thing is that I always have it with me.
