Barnes 200gr LRX 300 RUM

Just got back from the range today. thought I would give an update on this barnes 200g LRX.
Remington 700P bone stock with a 6.5-20 viper pst.
26" barrel
COAL is 3.650 to fit the mag
90g H1000
CCI 250 Primers
Rem. brass
100yds
.459 4 shot group
3102 velocity
ES 30. kinda high, but I'm not sure how to fix that.
temp was 60 degrees and elevation was 9250(Colorado)
1 fowler shot and then this 4 shot group.
The only pressure signs I had was right after i ran a wet patch through the barrel to clean it. Other than that, when it was dry, there was nothing. I could probably go hotter, but with a group like that out of a factory gun, I will leave it alone for now. I hope to use this on elk here and deer in nebraska this year. If I kill something with it, I will post the results.

Looks good to me! I wouldn't worry about trying to run them hotter, 3100 fps is a reasonable velocity out of the RUM with a 26" barrel with that bullet. Let us know how they perform on game!

Here is an update on my 2011 nebraska hunt with the 200g lrx. I hit this buck square in the shoulder and he dropped in his tracks. the range was 86yds. lol both shoulders were gone with a complete pass through. all i found were little blue peices of plastic from the tip. His head was still wiggling, so I put another one in him at 10yds just to make sure he did not suffer. i shot him in the back of the neck. It turned the neck meat to hamburger, i lost about 20lbs of meat due to hitting bone. it was not the long range shot I wanted, but dead is dead.

I shoot 300 rum also. if you get a pass through at 86 yards your bullet is to hard. we shot a mule deer last week at 300 yards with a 230 grain berger and both shoulders were mush, with know exit wound. i am a believer in no exit wound on game, i also tried the barnes, the copper is to hard.

I have been thinking of trying the 230 berger as well, but will wait till i can do more load development. I think that it will buck the wind that much better. of course at 86 yds wind does not matter unless its 100mph. lol

Too Hard??? 86 yards and 300 is not a fair comparison. These are two very different bullets. One is meant to upset and come apart and the other one is meant to just mushroom. I like them both but use them for different applications.

Since you already have a viable load, shoot it, you already have the bullets so do some testing of your own. I would tend to think the LRX will suprise you, accuracy is (at least in my book) a little more important than BC

All kidding aside, I've shot enough Barnes bullets to make me an honorary board member lol, they haven't let me down in ~10yrs of use. Is the Berger a better bullet? Beats me... if it ain't broke, fix it til it is I guess...

Any respectable bullet of hunting weight will/should exit at 86yds, ESPECIALLY a 200 grain bullet out of an Ultra Mag, at to exit or not exit, it's Ford vs Chevy, regardless, at 86yds it had BETTER exit..

Too hard? Not sure what that was indended to mean but, the solid copper construction of the Barnes is actually softer than the jacket of a conventional bullet, even the Berger.

Did you get any experience with the OLD Barnes MRXs and thier performance on the animals? For my 338WM I picked the 225 MRX (being shorter than TTSX it would hold more powder) as my one load and I got derailed with the Hornady GMX 185 factory Superformance and a dirty barrel (she likes it). So I'm looking for any thing on the MRXs and now the GMXs as to their internal pereformances.

I picked some of these up as well. The ttsx has always performed well for me. I shot a bull elk at 420yds this year with a 200g accu with no exit, bullet was in the hide on the off shoulder. Elk did not even take a step. I was just thinking a 200g accu woulda made all the way through at that distance.

I do like the barnes bullets. I have had great luck in my .308 with them for years. Just to clarify, this bullet expanded perfectly. There was a 4 inch exit hole after it went through the 1st shoulder. It was like looking through a tunnel. I would have been completely shocked if it would not have passed through at close range. A buddy of my father in law shot his deer at 50yds, 3 times with a .270 federal and recoverd 2 out of 3 bullets on the offside hide. He got his deer as well. I will have to wait till next year now to try for a longer range shot and see how they do.

I know this is an older post but would like to add my 200 lrx load also. I use 85 grains of retumbo and a gm215m primer. Loaded to 3.662 for .090 jump this load shoot a 1/4 moa and cruises at 3142 ES of 10 and an SD of 5. This is from a 28" PAC nor barrel with a tight neck chamber.

I am hoping to try this out on caribou from some distance before the season closes.
