Chronograph?

I read on a prior survey that the Chrony brand was preferred. Which model do yal suggest? I really won't use it that much however I will be using it to build ballistic profiles for BDC turrets so it is essintial that it be dead on accurate in it's velocities. Agin if yal could suggest a model that would fit that bill I'd appreciate it. Thank's, Brad

I have a CED millennium 2 an it is gives me consistent readings every time I take it out. I had our supply SGT order a new Oehler last year and have lined the two up together and shot through them at the same time. They were within just a few fps of each other.
I wouldn't rely on a ballistics program to build a BDC turret off of. I can't seem to ever get the program to match my actual drops. I have read everything I can find on properly installing the correct info and it's still off, sometimes by 1/2 mil at 1000yards.
I use it initially to get in the ball park and then after getting my actual drops fudge the numbers till it matches up.

Yep. Ballistic programs are far from 100% accurate.

If you want an accurate turret then the best way to get there is to test your loads under field conditions at fifty yard intervals out to your maximum. Log each actual correction as you go along.

In doing so actually count the clicks required for each range and log them.

Send that in with your request for a custom turret and you'll then be dead on.

If you have the actual drops and either MV or BC you can derive the other.

I have had the same experience and do the same to build a BDC. The actual drops usually don't match up to the program output when I start getting much farther out than 500 yards. What I have been trying to do and would like feedback on is useing the chronograph to establish a reference point for an optimum load. Once I have my actual drops and have built my turret, I then keep a supply of those loads with the my actual measured velocity which may not match a ballistic program but they are very consistent and hit where they are supposed to. If I then get a different lot of powder that produces a velocity that is different than my original lot, or even try to change to a different powder, could I replicate my oriiginal drop data if I adjust the powder to match the velocity of my original standard load. All other components, bullet, primer, brass, etc. would be unchanged. I have done a little experimentation with this by actual testing on the range, and it seems to work but would like to know if anyone has tried this.

In this case the Oehler is ideal. The Oehler actually measures the velocity of each shot twice to help eliminate errors.

I wish the poll you referred to had more information on those giving their opinions... do they actually own a cronograph and how often do they use it as well as how many rounds do they shoot through it

Ended up getting the comptition electronics prochrono. One thing I'm not going to like about it isnot having a remote display however, the reviews are really good on accuracy and giving accurate readings at all times of day and under diffrent conditions. I think you will like it. I have one and it produdes readings and accuracy that is the same as my Oehler 35. If you have decent eyesight, you can see the displayed velocities from 15 feet away.
