I have just gotten my 110ba in 338 lapua and I am going to try the gun juice treatment on it. Don't know if it really does extend barrel life or increase FPS or not but everyone I have talked to about it said that it definately helps a lot with copper fouling and makes cleaning a lot easier. It was suggested to me by a member on here to not use it untill the break in is done so as not to interfere with the lapping. My question is how many rounds roughly do you all think I should wait? I put 49 rounds of 300 SMK's through it on Sunday and cleaned it after every 5 while I was doing it. Should that be enough or maybe wait another 50 and keep cleaning like I have been?

When I broke-in my new Howa, I loaded a 20 shot ladder test, cleaning it each shot. After 20 shots I had my zero, a few potential loads to try, and it copper fouled 10% of what it did.

I would say about 100rnds. Before you apply it use the gunslick foaming bore cleaner (read the directions) on it until it runs completely clear for two successive cleanings.

Then blow it out good with carburetor cleaner, patch it out, repeat, and then apply.

Awwww man. You mean I have to go shoot my gun some more?:) Oh well I guess someone has to do it LOL.

I just knew that'd really tear you up.

It's going to vary quite a bit from gun to gun but when your copper fouling drops to minimal and your groups tighten up you'll know you're there.

If you've already gone through the manufacturers recommended break in process I'd just clean the hell out of it after about every fifteen rounds and see when the copper fouling drops to a minimum and go from there.

Something you might want to read up on is Machine Gunner's Lube.

Tactical Springs & Machine Gunners Lube

Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

It's a fairly new product but I've heard good enough things about it I'm going to really strip down my own barrels and treat with it.

Thanks for the tip on the lube WR but I already have a brand new bottle of gun juice, bought it a couple of months ago in preperation of the savage getting here. The other stuff doe sound promising though, let me know how you make out with it. On a seperate note, ater reading some of your other posts I would like to offer my most heartfelt condolances to you and your family for your recent loss. Hope you are coping okay with it.

I will. One of these days I'm going to take you up on that offer to come north and hunt some of your big uglies. I'll bring a good bottle of scotch and we'll talk about it.

Made for a tough two weeks but we're coping. I appreciate it.

I've got a few things left I want to do before i'm too old.

Going to try and join the guys for a WY elk hunt next year.

Then I want to try to go north at least for a Moose and Caribou. Of course I wouldn't say no to a sheep or goat either... .

My wife is fully supportive as long as I promise to fill the freezer or stay gone!

Too bad you can't make it this years trip. In my hunting group this year both my brother in law as well as myself got bull moose draws, my best friend got a grizzly draw. Don't remember a year when we have ever had that many draws at once. Moose calves and 2 point bulls are also open as well as black bear, mulies and whitetails. I have never had a bull draw before so thats the one I'm looking forward to, improves my odds a little better than just looking for 2 pointers and calves

Well I wish you all the luck in the world on it.

I've been frothing over the idea of going after a big bull since my first bite of Moose Meat about 40 years ago after a friend of our's had made a trip to Minnesota and scored a big hit.

His wife was good with it till he got the head back from the Taxidermist. She thought they looked like a big pretty dear till he unboxed it.... .gun)

LMAO picturing the look on her face
