Finnaly after waitng since march my 110ba in 339 LM has shown up. Got the bipod and scope put on it almost instantly, like a little kid on christmas morning I am right now. Hopefully my "honey-do" list isn't too long and I'll get a chance to try it out this weekend. Think this is the first time I have ever hoped for rain, can't do my outdoor chores if it's pouring so I might as well go shooting is the line I'm gonna try on her :)

Not much for elk hunting around here, moose is the primary hunt in these parts. Well for me anyways. I do have a cow elk draw this year but it doesn't start till February and it's a 150 miles or so North from here so I have some time to get some practice in on the gun first before I try to put it on a meat target. Got it too late inthe year to try for a long bomb on a moose this year, want to get very comfortable with it first. I have a Millet 6-25 x 56 on it for now. Have a Sightron SIII 8-32 x 56 that needs to be paid off to go on it soon hopefully

Well I hope that you get your moose, its a great fast way to fill a freezer !

I like both of those scopes, either will do for me, but its going to wait awhile.

As an update I just got back from the range for my first try with my new toy. All I can say is wow, what a blast. A plastic surgeon couldn't wipe the grin from my face right now. The accuracy out of the box on this gun astonished me. 1st 2 shots were pretty much one hole, was only 25 meters to get it on paper so I didn't think too much of that. Went to 100 meters and got the same thing, just 1 hole about 2 calibers wide with 3 rounds. Went to 200 meters and started smashing, and I mean smashing the 4" gong with virtually every shot. I though that my 358 Norma hit that gong hard, this thing is in a completly different class all together. The other huge surprise was how little recoil this gun has. It kicks way less than my .270 win does. I fired 45 rounds out of it today and feel nothing at all from it other than joy. At this rate I see myself buying h-1000 by the dump truck load I think:) All in all I would have to say that it was worth the wait. Need to try to stretch it's legs a bit and see if I stay as consistant with it and maybe I will try to fill a tag with this year after all.

great stuff......i have had mine for about 3 months here in New Zealand...it too shoots great...i have modified the scope rails to remove the unused side and forward picatinny rails, and topped it with a mark 4 leupold 8-25 power.

i used it for the first time hunting in the weekend and had a blast. 4 Fallow deer 220, 723,747 and 807 yards. all one shot kills with 300 grain SMK's.....we also carried out some culling on a herd of wild goats with many more kills out to 900 yards.

my load is:

300g SMK
88.5g of H-1000
215m federal primers
lapua brass
3.75 Over all length

2680 fps

Pretty close to the same recipie I am trying out, tried loads at 91 and 92 grains of h 1000 with the 300 SMK. I was getting cratering of the primers though and a bit of a shine from the bolt face so I definately need to back it off a bit. My COAL was 3.72 with the 215m and lapua brass. I also have some of the Berger 300's coming, both the gen 1 and gen 2's. I think the lots of powder that I have are some of the newer hotter ones as I have been talking to another guy back east with the same rifle but using the 91 grain load and says he's getting no pressure sign at all. I don't have a sticky bolt lift or anything but I think I will still back it off a touch anyways. I will try loading my next batch at 90 and 89 and see if it improves any.

I have never had a system capable of really reaching out there before like this thing can and have self imposed limits of 400 yards or so. That was as far as I felt comfortable shooting in the past. My hunting partner has a hay farm that we usually do some predator culling in the spring on as well as deer in the fall that have opportunity for 1000+ shots, but I am long ways away from doing that right now. Depending on how much time I get behind the gun I am hoping to get a spring bear from at least 600 is my goal for myself. Within 2 years I hope to be good enough on steel to take a moose at 1000+ with it. Not too sure if these are realistic timetables or not but that is what I am trying for.
Bman what ranges are you generally hunting at?

That sounds like a very workable load. I would back it off a tad too.

That sounds like a realistic time frame, 400 yards is very doable with what you have, as is the 1,000, just steady range time and a lot of reloading. Good luck on it !

Pictures from my first day at the range with my new toy. And yes the sticker has since been removed from the stock. However, the childish grin may be permament

Well it took me all of about five minutes to work up to 1,080 with my 300 Rum so I'd say you are dragging your feet ole man... HA!

Naa, just pulling your leg. No one can build your confidence in your, and the rifle's abilities so take as much time as you feel appropriate and have fun.

Confidence is a huge factor in long range shooting that far too few even consider.

The difference between "I know I can" and "I don't think I can" makes for a lot of errors.

I know you waited a long time for this rig so enjoy it.

I am going to do my best to limit myself to the shots that would astound and confuse me if I missed. I also need to confirm my drops that I have from my ballistic programs before I try to take an annimal with it at any great distance. I am leaving for my moose trip in less than 2 weeks so no chance of getting that done in time for this years trip for sure. Maybe my cow elk in February could possibly get Lapua'd though:)
