Hey, I want to build a long range rifle for hunting and general shooting. I was looking at the Remington Sendero's in 7mm Remington Magnum. I already have a 7mm Rem mag. for general hunting and absolutely love it. Just wanted some opinions on different rifles to fit the bill. Definitely not looking to go custom. Thanks.

The sendero is certainly a good choice and you can have a good gunsmith tune it to a level you can have geat confidence in for a fraction of the cost of a custom.

If I were in your shoes, (and I was a few years ago) I'd sep up to the 7mm STW or 7 Rum if you are specifically looking for a long range rig.

You already have a 7mag so add a few hundred feet per second so you can stretch it on out with confidence.

Between the STW and Rum I'd vote for the Rum as it's a more modern overall more efficient and equal or better performance wise along with better barrel life. Mind you I have and am in love with my STW but if I were to do it over gain today I'd go with the Rum.

I would look into the savage LRP in .260 Not a huge savage fan but if your looking for an out of the box rig.... it's a good choice for hunting and paper punching. I would also look into some of their tactical rigs in .308 another good cheap git-r-done round.

Sendero_Man - that's a nice group - especially for outta the box...

As to which 7mm to go with.....the Remmy is nice and gets the job done, but the STW and/or RUM add alot more acceleration to the 'game' and keep the smack-down power a bit further out.

I'd agree w/Wildrose and if really long range was your specific goal, the 7mm RUM would be my choice (mainly to avoid the case belt.....).

Eventually, I'll be rebuilding my 1983 vintage 700 ADL (currently in 7mm Rem) and have decided to keep it a 7mm Rem.

I have to agree with Sendero_Man. Likewise, I too have an out-of-the-box Sendero in 7 RM with similar results using 168 Bergers. The STW and RUM will give you slight performance improvements, but there are other things to consider as well… recoil, barrel life, brass availability/cost, etc. As you indicated in your OP, for general hunting and shooting the 7 rem mag is hard to beat. If you're already reloading for 7 RM, then it's that much easier! And, if you don't reload, then finding 7 RM ammo is much easier than STW and RUM.

I'd check around online and at local gun stores for a used Savage 112 BVSS in 7rm for less than half what a Sendero cost.

Thanks All! After seeing those results I'd have to say that firmed up my confidence in the sendero. I've heard only good things about these guns. Sendero Man, what powder charge are you using for your 168 bergers? Thank you!

I'm using 70g of H1000, Nosler Brass and Fed 215M primers and getting roughly the same velocity. I don't remember my COAL off-hand, so I'll need to consult my reloading notes when I get home from work.
