Mark v?

Anyone ever use a Weatherby mark v for long range. I'm thinking about getting an ultra light or the fibermark and I'd be using it for long range deer and yotes.

I personally think it is the best factory action made.

I normally build the rifles that need a magnum bolt face on a Remington 700 action
but the bigger cases like the Lapua.Rigby or the 378 cased rounds all get the Mark 5
and are realy the way to go.

They are very well made (Precision) and very smooth.

The Ultralight can be a bit, um, picky. There are some who have difficulty maintaining acceptable accuracy with the thin barrel used on that rifle. Others do not. My Dad took antelope at 500+ and 800+ yards last October using his Ultralight so it's definitely possible.

His next long range rifle will be the 338-378 Accumark that he purchased recently. It's hard to beat that one for the money.

I hear that alot about the ultralights being picky. But I have really been looking at a fibermark in a 300 wby I just don't want to be disappointed in accuracy for the cost they are. I like all my long range guns be atleast sub moa. All my guns are also heavy barrels never had experience with light barreled guns at long range.

i have a friend who has a 30-378 in an accumark and it shoots sub .m.o.a. closer the half inch side with hand loads and factory ammo

Note that the Fibermark (current version) is a regular Mark V with a Bell & Carlson stock. It only has aluminum "pillars" and not the full aluminum from "tip to grip" as the B&C Medalist does. And yes, I own 2 of the newer versions and one of the older ones so I've seen it first hand. My 7mm Fibermark has not been touched and is a sub-moa rifle.

If you are looking at a new rifle, consider the price of a Mark V synthetic and then swapping to the B&C Medalist in a color of your choice. Remove the barrel "pads" in the forearm, open up the barrel channel a bit, bed it and have fun! I'm doing one right now, just waiting on a part or two before I move on to the next step of the project.
