Leica- V- Zeiss RF

I am looking at purchasing a RF binocular. I currently have a Swaro RF and it works great, but I want a binocular that does both range finding/glassing. I am looking at the Leica Geovid 10x42 RF and the Zeiss 10x45 RF. My Swaro will go out to 1500 yards, do either, Leica or Zeiss RF bino's compare?

Does any on have experience with either of the two RF bino's mentioned and is one any better than the other?

I run the Leica Geovids. They are incredible glass and the rangefinder is fairly good. You can hit out to 1200 consistently and I have hit coyotes at 1380 yards. That is the farthest out and a little past consistent limits.

My calling partner has the Leica CRF 1600 and hits critters out in the 1400 to 1450 range pretty regular. But, you are back to 2 seperate units.

I prefer the one unit, even with limited range, it works very well.

Why not buy the new Swaro rangefinder bino's ?? Heard great things about them too.

i have a swarovski unit also. i havent tried the leica 10x42 geovid but i have used the 15x56 geovid unit. i found it easier to use than my swarovski.
in fairness the 15x56 is strictly a tripod mounted unit.
mine works better off a tripod also.
fact is all serious glassing should be done using a tripod.
for those who do, another option is to attach your rangefinder on your glasses
with velcro.
ive also seen other type mounting devices used on twin spotter brackets.
they work just fine and are an option for some.

Thanks Sendero Man, I really like the swaro line and was wondering why they did not have a bino/RF unit. I had heard talk that they may be building one about 2 years ago, but no one could confirm.

Any idea when they might be out?

I've also been waiting for the Swaro RF's to come out, but now they have, so far from what I hear I'm a little disappointed. No HD lenses - well Leica managed to do it. Only 1500 yards max? The Zeiss RF's will do 1700 yards in almost any conditions. I haven't been able to find the beam divergence anywhere, Swaro don't have it on their Tech specs page. I really thought they were going to bring out the best as they've taken so long, but I'm not convinced that's going to be the case. Will just have to wait and see I s'pose. In the meantime the Zeiss RF's are the best in class at this stage.

I bought my Geovids from Alex several years ago. He is great to deal with. BTW I have been very happy with my Geovids.The max range in the field I have ranged was 1285 yds on an antelope a friend of mine shot a couple years ago.

I wonder when Leica will decide they are lagging behind & put the CRF1600 internals into the Geovids, hopefully they will change the pressure to in hg instead of psi.

Looking forward to having a look at these Swaros.

I need/would like, to get some rangefinder binos, was going to get the Zeiss, but not sure now....???
