Dam, I spent all weekend siting at a waterhole for elk, hoping I'd get the first one:D

we have been just wolf hunting for the last 7 days we can get them with in about 200yds but no closer with the mouth calls. any ideas and we cant use decoys or electronic in mt. and finding them is not a issue in the belts or craziesgun)

Where do you see that we can't use a decoy. I just went through the regs again and can't find anything other than it's illegal to shoot decoys, which is how the FWP get you if you pop one of the decoy traps.

I agree - see no where in regs where a decoy is illegal to use to attract - just don't shoot your own decoy.

we are waiting a response from helena but are new(out of school) warden says the artifical baits attractened is a decoy. i think it is bs but we'll see what the law enforcement div. says on mon when they are back. he has been a real jerk over this kind of stuff. he is tring to see what the rule is over shooting a grouse(sootie grouse) that is not native to mt right know it is a bird that is on the west coast a type of blue grouse.

Those guys are a pain in the butt, we have really good guys down here fortunatel. Baiting in MT has NEVER been anything other than a food source, in the regs they are clearly dealt with in separate paragraphs so they are two different subjects! Our pine cone cops down here are like that, they weren't to terrible till they issued them side arms then they got completely insane with authority.
It will be interesting to see what Helena says on this to say the least as it could change hunting antelope, elk, whitetails or geese with decoys. I'll be a sad dude if we can't cause I have a few decoys:D

ok so we got the call back from the head warden decoys are legel as long as there is no electronics involved. they have to move under man power or wind no batteries.

Every once in a while there is a bit of sanity that shows up when it comes to interpreting our Mt. game laws.

On a side note: Ask 5 different wardens with Mt. Game & Fish what is required to leave proof of sex on an elk that is boned out - then when you're totally confused ask them if it is required to bring the head out in a brow tined bull area after you have boned it out.

Hopefully - you got your response in the form of an email - if you did I'd hit print and keep a copy - FOREVER. Better than that, if you did get a written response I'd be forever great full if you PM'd me a copy.

If your response is verbal - I'd sure write it out in long form to the best of your memory with dates, times, and hopefully the name of the party you got it from along with phone numbers involved.

Good job!
