My first Semi-Custom!!

Well, I finally got most of my parts gathered up for my rifle. I still am waiting on my Mcmillan stock to come in, but it'll be late october. I've hand painted the camo(it's not that good but my first time) and it has the following work done.
Re-barreled by Randy's Custom Rifles and Rebarreling with a Shillen SS Match barrel in .25-06. 26" fluted. Bolt was fluted straight flutes with black inlays. Duracoated black. 20 MOA Picatinny rail. Viper Vortex HS 4-16x50 glass. The trigger is the typical Tikka trigger that breaks at 2.1 lbs. Anyways, i haven't got to shoot it yet, but i can't wait. as the post says this is my first semi-custom. and the action feels amazing. Just thought i'd share it with you all, seeing how i've gotten alot of inspiration from the members here. Thank you all for everything.

Yes sir! I'm in the process. I bought a velcro kind, and was planning on putting foam under it(i had seen that on a video and worked well) but when it came in it was for a left handed gun. so now back to the search. I'd prefer to keep it removable. I'm hoping the Mcmillan will be a slightly higher comb. It's the Sako hunter version....I'm open to suggestions on the cheek raiser. Thank you

My favorite is from DESERTWARRIORPRODUCTS DOT COM but you have to drill holes through the stock so that scares alot of people off.

Ive also used one that is removable with velcro straps made by BLACKHAWK and it has a few foam cusions you can use to adjust the hight. I got it from MIDWAYUSA dot com.

without a solid EXACT cheekweld you will never get maximum accuracy out of any rifle...

ALSO and ACD or Anti-cant-device. It's a bubble level that ensures your exactly level. A few degrees of tilt (cant) left or right is almost undetectable in the field but ensures a miss at longer ranges...

Thank you Wildrose. I'm pretty happy with how it all turned out. I'm thinking it'll be great for out to about 600 yards. I'm new to longrange and just hoping to break the 450 barrier with it. This is also my first attempt at the camo side of things. I used a guide off of here using Krylon and a sponge brush and for a novice(read complete camo virgin) I'm pretty happy. We'll see how it shoots in about a week. I'm waiting approval to join the shooting range here in western nebraska. All this room and it's hard to find somewhere to shoot. Imagine that!

Well you did a good job.

The best thing about Krylon or PlastiKote is that if you don't like it all you need is a can of carburetor cleaner and some 00 steel wool and in five minutes it's gone.

When you get ready to make it permanent just pick a good flat base of Cerakote, and then you can camo over it anytime you want with shades.

It probably took me a dozen tries to get what I wanted on mine which is here.



Desert Sand base, some camo brown Plastikote and a camonet for a stencil.

Next step will be doing the entire reciever and barrel the same way.

Thanks for the tip. Thats a nice looking rifle Wildrose. I may have to check on the cerekote when my Mcmillan comes in. I'm hoping the tan from them won't be too light.

If you didn't have McMillian build in a cheek rest yet, I would suggest the Karsten Cheek rest. It cost's $60+$8 for shipping. You can in stall it your self. Took all of 5min for me to put on my rifle. Very easy and very comfortable. It's adjustable to boot. They make 3 different models. I went with the Model A.

Well guys, just an update. I finally got to the range today. It wasn't a great day to shoot, 60 degrees. 15-20 MPh with gusts up around 30. and i didn't have a rear rest that was very good, so shooting off a bipod, off a low table, with no rear rest, these were #2,3,and 4 out of a fresh barrel, cleaning in between each. The ammo was el-cheapo Hornady 117 gr factory ammo. Overall i'm pretty excited. I shot a 5 shot string later, and the first was a fouler, then i put 3 touching, and threw the last one left about 3/4 of an inch(gun went off a bit early). If not for shooter error and a bad rest, i trully believe this will be a 1/4" gun with factory ammo just based on a couple of the groups i shot when i did my part.

If you are thinking of getting a McM stock look hard at the A3-sporter.
