sierra bullets

I seen in a new catolog that they are marketing some of there .22, .308, and .338 MKBT bullets as "LongRange specialty bullets" Isn't that what all the match kings are? Or is this there sneaky way to get longrange hunters attention, and use them for hunting? Since they don't "recomend" Matchkings for hunting. I think they are feeling the presure from Berger sales on long range hunting bullets.

the 168's were originally made for 300 meter. i doubt the berger sales make a dent in the sierra sales considering the military contracts. i personally would not use a match king for hunting they are not made for it. i have seen on, here good results with the 338 cal match kings though.

The bullets they originally marketed as LR specialty bullets were originally those that required non-standard twists, such as the .224" 80 grain MK, the 6mm 107 and so on. Marketing them directly gave them a chance to talk to the customer and ensure they had a rifle that was correct for using them. Easier to do it that way, than to try to explain to the guy whose 22-250 with the 1x14" twist is spraying 80 grain bullets all over the paper after he's bought a box of 500. It was a decent idea but it may have expanded to include some that don't need such cautions these days. Anyway, that was the original though behind "specialty" bullets.
